May 22, 2013 - Iowa City, Iowa
May 21, 2013, We left Fulton Mo. About 10:00 and got to Iowa City, Iowa about 2:30. One of our good friends that winters in Texas, Mike, met us and showed us the way to the campground. We are staying at Coralville Lake Reservoir, just outside Iowa City. This is a Corp of Engineers park and only has 30 amp and no sewer or water but a beautiful park. Also, no cable TV. This is what we call roughing it. After getting set up we went over to Mike and Sheryl’s, our friends that winter in Texas. Had a very nice visit and soaked up a couple suds....

Apr 23, 2013 - Riverside Casino
We left Council Bluffs today about noon, we stopped at Rick's favorite place off I80 to have a Maidrite! We arrived at Riverside Casino south of Iowa City about 5:30pm. Judi drove up from Muscatine for a visit. We had dinner at the buffet at the casino and then played some black jack, I believe Judi was the only on that left a winner. On Wednesday, we drove to Muscatine. We spent a couple hours over at Jen's house, we enjoyed ourselves with her lovely family. Trey, Noah, and Sophia are simply adorable. that night, we went to Judi and...

Sep 5, 2012 - Iowa City
On Labor Day our labor was to drive 366 miles from South Dakota to Eastern Iowa where my brother and sister-in-law live (Iowa City). It is a really nice small city and we are in an Army Corps of Engineers' campground again and situated right on a lake created by damming up the Iowa River. It's been hot as usual but it is suppose to cool off starting tomorrow and be in the 70s. What will that be like! Monday night we were treated to a delicious dinner prepared by my brother, Brian. He retired a couple of years ago and teaches college...

Aug 3, 2012 - A Trip To Iowa City
From Amana Colonies RV Park – Amana, IA We decided to drive over to Iowa City today and found ourselves in the center of the University of Iowa campus. It was not our intention to visit the home of the Big Ten Iowa Hawkeyes but found this as an added treat when the Old Capitol Museum was located on their campus. Situated at the middle of the University of Iowa’s Pentacrest the Old Capitol was the seat of government from 1842 to 1857. This area known as the Pentacrest is an “X” pattern formed by four buildings, one on each corner of the Old...

Jul 30, 2012 - Day 13: Awesome day!
We were up early again today so I could get to the City Museum when it opened at 9am. This museum is amazing!! It's a kids play and discovery place. I loved everything about it--it was so much fun!! There was a 10 story high slide that Grandpa and I went on. We went once, I would have gone again but it takes forever to go up all the stairs. There was a place that made shoelaces. I bought a key ring with some of the shoelace to hold all my key chains I've collected this trip. I just need 1 more state--Iowa. The outside part was so much fun!...

Jul 13, 2012 - Almost across Iowa
Hot and bumpy it the best way to describe our trip - and long. Altho we weren't on the road that long it seemed to take forever!! Left Cabella's around 8:30 after a nice shower and breakfast. Traffic was a bit heavy and the wind was blowing us around a bit. We stopped in Mason City and picked up a tank of gas for $3.25. Of course, we saw it for less a bit down the road but that was better than the #3.54 we saw in MN. 218 is a great alternative to I-35 if you are going south and east across Iowa. It is a divided 4 lane and goes thru some...

May 7, 2012 - De la route beau temps, mauvais temps (719 km)

Dec 28, 2011 - wednesday
>This was the day! Woke up at 6:00 A.M. Left home around 8:30 A.M. and drove to Iowa. Mary and Marissa, our daughters, helped send us off at a very early hour. Stayed at an exquisite casino in Iowa City called Riverside Casino & Golf Resort. Perhaps it wasn't a great idea to have been so spoiled the first night, even though it was appreciated. This made the next night a bit tougher to take. Going from "Pretty Woman" to "A Gal who goes Inner City", or something was how it felt. Back to the hotel..The window and shower curtains were...

Sep 6, 2011 - Iowa
Iowa, the heart of the corn belt. We never saw so much corn in our lives - hundreds, if not thousands, of miles of corn fields. After leaving the Mississippi River we went inland to Sugar Bottom, a Corps of Engineers Park near Iowa City. We have been to a lot of Corps parks but never one as nice as this one. Our campsite was not available over the Labor Day holiday so they gave us a list of ones that were and we chose one (three sites away from the one we reserved on line). It was a true "Bill campsite". My RV friends will know what that...
