It was a hot day, as we watched the temperature rise up to 100 degrees, we were glad to be traveling in our nice cool truck. We left Illinois at about 11:00 as we crossed the Mississippi River into Iowa. We traveled 266 miles across Iowa, how does one describe this beautiful state; rolling hills with acres and acres of corn fields, soy beans, with a scattering of farms among them. Jul 20, 2008 - Stage 1 Missouri Valley, IA to Harlan, IA....59-miles and 3,797 feet of climb.
According to the flyer, Missouri Valley has a train pass through every 7-minutes…..according to those sleeping in my RV….it is closer to one train every 5-minutes. However, the trains didn’t hamper our sleep efforts as much as the liquid air…..I’m not sure it could have been much more humid….but with the tornado warnings, we were satisfied with humidity being the worst of the weather. We began the ride at 6:10…..what a beautiful morning. We weren’t alone at 6:10…..there were bikes as far as the eye could see in either direction…..at it...
