Jul 7, 2018 - Forest City, IA

Saturday, 07 Jul: Day three of three... The final day of our three day journey. It was wonderful boondocking weather as the temperatures dropped into the fifties. That, coupled with sheer exhaustion, stress, and lack of sleep last nite combined to let us both sleep very, very well. We awoke with the sun, well rested and ready for another day. Following breakfast we drained the water from the pans and re-iced the fridge. We hit the road at 0839 continuing west on WI 21. East of Tomah WI we met the I 90/I 94 interstate and took it west. A few...

Jun 6, 2018 - Forest City, IA

6-Jun-18 Forest City, IA I talked to Josh at CDI on the progress on the MH work this morning. He said he needed another day to make sure the paint had setup properly and put the awnings back on including the toppers on the slides. I had him replace the fabric on the slides as they were old and needed replacing. I booked another night at the hotel where we are staying in Clear Lake. We will take the Winnebago factory tour this afternoon. We took the tour a number of years ago but decided to go again as it was interesting the last time and we...

Jun 3, 2018 - Forest City, IA

3-Jun-18 Forest City, IA We left Eagleville, MO at our usual time 10 am. The expected temperature is in the mid-70s but with very, very strong cross winds; fighting the wheel the entire way to Forest City, IA some 230 miles north on I-35. We exited the I-35 at Clear Lake, IA for the last 20 miles but encountered a 6 mile detour at the halfway point. The navigator was confused and kept complaining the whole time. We camped at the Winnebago Service Center at about 3 pm. We got the last 50 amp site. No water or sewer but we knew that as we...

May 11, 2018 - Finding our RV

The bus ride to Forest City was uneventful. We found our RV and ride for the next 4 weeks and unpacked our luggage. Our first impressions of this RV is that the storage is not very well laid out. There is lots of room, but some not in the right places. No drawers for storage in the bathroom and only one drawer in the bedroom. Such a departure from our rig. Since our bus did not leave until late afternoon, we explored the local area and found one of the houses that we had seen the Rehab Addict remodel/flip – the Minnehaha house. There were...

Nov 5, 2017 - Haircut and Keeping Warm

November 5 – Haircut and Keeping Warm It was Kathleen’s turn to get a haircut this morning. Our furnace and small floor electric heater are used a lot to keep us at 70F inside. The outside temperature is 38F but the wind makes it feel much lower. The temperature will be in the mid-20’s tonight so I will have to drain the fresh water tank and turn on the heating pads on the gray and black tanks. We will have out unit at the Service Department tomorrow morning at 7:00 AM for our seat cover replacement. We plan to visit and drive a 34’ motor...

Nov 4, 2017 - Drawer Slide Install, Quilt Shop Visit and Church Lunch

November 4 – Drawer Slide Install, Quilt Shop Visit and Church Lunch The replacement of the drawer slides was quick due to prior practices. The drawer moves like it is gliding on butter now. Then, we visited the local quilt shop and picked up some nice patterns and cloth projects. The shop ladies said that we should consider having lunch at the local Methodist Church luncheon that had chicken and biscuits and banana cream pie. We could not not help support the local church and ate delicious lunch while talking to some locals at our...

Nov 3, 2017 - Visit to Winnebago Service Department for New Seat Covers – Not

November 3 – Visit to Winnebago Service Department for New Seat Covers – Not We had our Sprinter at the Service at 7:00 AM for the replacement of our driver and passenger seat covers that are pleather and cracking. At 8:00 AM we learned that the covers were not ready and that we would have to return our unit on Monday. Kathleen informed Service that they would have to fill our propane and fresh water tank so we would have sufficient supply over the weekend. Both were filled and we picked up our unit and returned to our campsite to settle...

Jul 20, 2017 - WIT GNR 2017

We are now in Forest City, Iowa. Forest City as a name only makes sense if you consider corn stalks as trees. The week before GNR (Grand National Rally), the city holds its annual Puckerbrush Celebration, with a local parade, fireworks, and beer tent. Temps have been in the mid to high 90’s over 100 by heat index. We have been on a tour to Amish country, which included a home cooked meal and a tour of a farm with no electric power. They have adapted most power tools to compressed air, generated by a windmill. They also adapted a battery...

Sat, 01 July: Driving day two of two... We slept well at the Mitchell SD Cabella's. We awoke at daybreak, which is around 0600 at this location and on Central time. We got ourselves and "things" ready for the road and Bob pulled out a minute or two after eight. We hopped back on I 90 and continued east seventy-some miles to Sioux Falls where we picked up I 29 south a few miles to a local arterial that took us to the Sioux Falls Costco. Yes, Costco! We had not visited since Denver and we needed our Costco "FIX", so a stop was in order. We...

Jul 2, 2016 - Forest City, IA

Sat, 02 Jul: Another road day... We had a restful nite at the truck stop in Coloma Wisconsin. Despite parking at the extreme far corner of the huge lot we ended up with an 18-wheeler parked nearby with its engine running and blocking us in. Sandi, ever the lite sleeper, had ear plugs in so she didn't hear a thing. Luckily, despite us rising early, the truck left before we'd have to disconnect the car in order to back out of our spot. After going thru our check lists Bob rolled wheels at 0726. We continued west on WI 21 about thirty miles to...

May 15, 2016 - Forest City, IA

Back to Winnebagoland and Forest City IA Left Amana early in the morning to avoid the winds and arrived at the Winnebago Customer service at 1145AM. There were several camping spots still available in the customer service lot so we grabbed one and set up camp. Each spot has an electrical outlet but to dump and get more water you have to go to the rally grounds across the street. There were many coaches coming in and the lot filled up quickly. The area across the street at the visitor center also filled up and the coaches kept on coming in...

Oct 13, 2015 - Winnebago Service Center

We spent about 3 and half weeks at the Winnebago Service Center in Forest City, Iowa. What made our time here fun and enjoyable is some of our other Winnebago friends. Mike and Bev from Ontario, Canada, Larry and Lou Ann from Searcy, Arkansas friends we have met here in previous visits and of course we made many new friends as we waited for the service process to take its time. Once work was completed, we were in a quandary as to where we want to go next. Over the next few entries, you'll come to understand that statement. LOL
