First stop today was the Patton Museum at Fort Knox. It’s a small museum that was established in the late 40’s after George Patton’s death in 1945. It consists of a lot of personal memorabilia from his life. The biggest things there were a restoration of the 1938 Cadillac staff car he was riding in when he was injured in an auto accident in Germany, and a Jeep specially modified for Patton. Right next to the museum is the Armor Memorial Park dedicated to all those soldiers who fought in armor during the 20th Century. Most of the unit...

May 30, 2010 - Lincoln and Santa Claus

I started the day going from Louisville to Lincoln City, Indiana, to go to the Monument for the Boyhood Home of Abraham Lincoln. This is where he lived from about age 8 until he moved to Illinois at age 22. They had a nice exhibit with a short film about his life there and a display of various items from those days. The visitor center is an interesting building; they have five walls that are sculpted and have quotes of him representing different phases in his life, - his time in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Washington and his death.
