Jul 27, 2016 - Indiana Eastbound

We did 497 miles today, another long one. There is bad weather coming later this week and we just want to get there... We saw a car vs a semi encounter on the road. The truck won and it appeared everyone was okay. We found a KOA in Richmond, Indiana. A very nice small campground with a long dusty access road. The guy who checked us in made sure we were happy. We were parked alone in a wide open area. He said others would pull in later that evening but I guess he was just wishing. We were up early and on the road. Another long day ahead.

Sep 23, 2015 - Ford Model T Museum - Richmond, IN

Hello Everyone, Today we got back on the road to finish the last 6 continental USA states that we missed on our cross country trip a year ago! After those are done, just Hawaii will remain! After leaving our Nephew John Long’s wedding on Sunday, we headed to Catskill, NY to visit our friends Rick & Sherry Shanks. From there we headed southwest toward Richmond, IN to visit one of my ‘Bucket List’ destinations, the Ford Model T Museum! The Ford Model T Museum chronicles the famous Tin Lizzy from inception thru 15 million cars spanning 1908 to...

Aug 17, 2015 - Day 41

It was another travel day as we slowly make our way home. One thing that is common in every state we have been in is road construction. We drove north on I-57 in Illinois and there was several sections with construction. We turned east on I-70 and more construction. We entered Indiana and the construction started at the border. Indiana is only about 150 miles wide along I-70 so we had no problem reaching the Ohio border. We stopped just short of Ohio in Richmond, Ind. A former co-worker of mine from The Star-Ledger lives here now so I gave...

Lay of the land

Jun 2, 2014 - Hot Water Again (I think)

We got lucky today. The water heater got repaired and we were on the road by about noon. It was only a pressure relief valve. They couldn’t work on the generator because the 2 bays allocated for generator work are under renovation. Hot water is more important than a working generator right now because I can get a shower. We also added a few more roadside attractions. The Barber Shop in a Caboose, a big cow, a double Decker London bus along US 36 and Madonna of the Trails in Richmond on US 40.. Since it was late when we started, we couldn’t...

Apr 28, 2013 - Rainy, soggy and into Indiana

This will be a quick one because other than rain, truckers, and lots of construction there's not much to tell. One of the highlights was passing Zanesville, Ohio, named for Zane Grey the author of cowboy stories. Most of the fields we passed were flooded or so wet that they couldn't be plowed. When we got to the campground we were one of about 6 units in the entire place. Our host, Jim was lamenting the fact that it was too wet to mow his lawns (something I understand that your guys are well aware of in May). We did actually travel through...

Aug 29, 2012 - Tom Raper RV

Monday morning we were up and on our way early in order to get our appointments checked off and hopefully with good results. Too early for all the results, but we're making progress on the A/C. We arrived at the Tom Raper Service Center in London, Ohio early for our appointment. The new service advisor was overwhelmed and suggested we go to their Richmond, Indiana location where they have more support. With that kind of approach, I was more than happy to go down the road. I didn't want to deal with overwhelmed newbies! Fortunately, they...

Aug 3, 2012 - Walmart Lot #2

It was such a great trip to Niagara Falls, but we have kids to see and miles to go. The drive has been pretty, with the landscape changing from the farms of New York to a less lush landscape. Although we are traveling along Lake Erie, we aren't seeing much in the way of water. The temperatures are kicking up, and the cool of Maine is starting to feel like months, not days, ago. We camped in our second Walmart tonight. The fridge is acting up a little, so we are keeping an eye on that. Since we arrived at 10:30 pm, David had a bowl of...

Jul 8, 2012 - That’s More Like It !

Last night we had just settled down in bed (1100PM) and I noticed the bedside clock and my C-PAP machine were not working and the AC had stopped. They run off of AC power so I needed to get up to see if we tripped a breaker in our electrical panel – all were normal. Next step was to go outside and check the breakers on the power post – all were normal. I carry a multi-meter for just such situations and it turns out neither the 30-amp nor the 50-amp outlets were live. I’m thinking it’s going to be a warm night without power and the AC and...

Sep 20, 2011 - Jour 27

Road Trip USA 2011

Aug 3, 2011 - Still Here (third Day)

We had a day to drive up to Richmond,Indiana to visit a few places that my mother had visited as a young girl in the 30's & 40's. My mother would drive a car with her girlfriends to the dances at a park in Richmond, the would collect some money for gas and fill the tank for 50 cents. Then drive up to Richmond to see the big bands before they became big bands, like Glenn Miller and Paul Whitemen. The name of the park was changed after Glenn Miller was killed in the 40's . We got to see other area of Richmond and to do some geocaching. Cook...

May 26, 2011 - Scary Night in Indiana

Traveled from Kentucky into Indiana not knowing we were driving into harms way. It was a beautiful day with uneventful travel until we reached Indiana. I don't think we will ever travel through Indiana again if we can help it. The Interstate System is in terrible shape. I mean the worst we have driven on. Fortunately Florence, our GPS, routed us off the Interstate onto some beautiful backroads. We drove through towns such as Greensburg and Rushville. I had been looking for a Wells Fargo Bank and believe it or not in the small town of...

SILVER TRAILS

Oct 8, 2010 - Pro Football Hall of Fame & Travel thru Amish Country

Today started off with a visit to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The building has grown since our last trip here back in 1978. We enjoyed seeing all the exhibits and even took turns at playing "Peyton Manning" (not very well I might add). However, it only took me 4-tries before I hit my receiver. Of all the years to visit, I had to sit through the Colts Super Bowl loss, again. In the theatre, they showed the scoring highlights of that game. Attached are some pictures we took in the Hall of Fame. After leaving the Hall of Fame, we decided to...
