Aug 14, 2017 - In the Shop

We were up early, had a small breakfast at the motel, then headed out on our scary journey the five miles to the TA service center. We were there at 8:00am and the service manager arrived shortly thereafter. He was very nice. Took Bill to the parts store so that we could purchase the parts without the mark-up that he would need to put on if he purchased them. We hung around the service center and had a great lunch at their café. When he finished fixing both wheels on the driver side (the back needed bearings also) and hooking up a brake...

Aug 13, 2017 - Visiting Pierceton

We drove out to a truck repair place that Bill talked to during our wait on the highway Saturday to see where it was and if we thought we could make it on three wheels. On the way, we discovered a Truckstops of America with a 24/7 service center. It was closer than the other place and the service manager said he could probably get us fixed on Monday since the parts stores were not open Sunday. We arranged to be there at 8:00am Monday morning. Then we drove about ninety miles to Pierceton which was our destination on Saturday to visit friend...

Aug 12, 2017 - Headed to Pierceton, IN

We got an early start from Amana and had an easy trip toward Indiana. When we got just twenty miles inside the Indiana border, people started honking and pointing to the RV. Turns out we had blown a bearing on the rear tire. We pulled off to the side and then spent five hours waiting for help. One problem was that is was Saturday and no RV service places were open. Another was that AAA could not find a tower for a rig that size that could still fit through tunnels. Finally, one of the towing people we called ourselves suggested having a...

May 1, 2015 - UPDATE

SURPRISE! We arrived at the Indiana Dunes State Park to find they are full! WOW! We were just about the only ones there a few years ago at this time. So, it was off to find another solution. We are at the Yogi Bear Jellystone about 12 miles down the road in Portage, sandwiched between the interstate and RR tracks. But it seems quite secure and will do. We are now 4 miles from a train station so we'll get a cab to go to and from the station for our visit in the city.

Jul 18, 2014 - Portage

We drove to Bremen today for another estimate from a company that installs Auto Motion shades. Precision Interior is in an industrial area, has a large paint booth in one building and does other work in the other. Maybe their labor rate will reflect this. Paul who came out the measure didn't give too much direction on how the shades would work, etc. They do mostly Berkshire so don't do as many high end coaches as the place in Lakeland. It's good the two other installers gave us more info. on how the shades would be put in. They do use Amish...

Oct 10, 2011 - Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore

Speed limits around here are 70/75 so we have made better time each day than planned. We arrived at Indiana Dunes at 1:00 pm checked at the visitor center and got a map of where to have the best access to the lake and what to see. We headed out to the pull off, parked the car and walked down to the lakeshore. When we got back to the car it would not start. We have been having problems for the past 4-5 days with it not starting until you tried twice. Well this time it would crank but not start. After about 15-20 minutes it finally started....
