Today we visited New Albany, IN. We discovered this city of 36,000 residents had brochures with walking tours of 1) 40 buildings dating from 1836 to 1937 in downtown New Albany with historic architecture and 2) 48 homes dating from 1845 to 1925 on "Historic Mansion Row". As we wondered why such wealth had centered in New Albany, we learned the following city history: New Albany, IN, founded in 1813 by brothers Joel, Abner, and Nathaniel Scribner, had rose to prominence in the 19th century.
