Aug 9, 2011 - Spring Mill State Park

We had a nice slow walk in the woods on the easy trails, we don't do the hard walking trails any more. We check the trail maps for the one mile, easy walk,in the woods . We came up on a tree seat near the water wheel grinding mill. You could set in the tree and rest for awhile, we did not just wanted to get on the trails before it got to hot. One trail had us in the back woods to come up on a kiln that was used in lime production for the village to make mortar and plaster. The natural lime was put into the kilns and was baked into a power...

Aug 8, 2011 - Spring Mill State Park

We drove for a few hours to a town in south part of the state where this is a park that still runs a grist mill and has the buildings open for us to see how the people in the 1800's lived off the land and what they did every day of their lives to be able to live in this country. We had a fun time watching the water mill turn the wheel that would turn the grinding stone that would grind the corn into corn meal. They had the normal buildings of a small village like basket store,candle store and dentist office !!!! We went into Mitchell to eat...
