Jun 23, 2019 - Mishawaka

Well, a whole week has gone by since we dropped Mo off at the Grand Design Service Center in Middlebury Indiana. We settled into the Varsity Clubs Hotel in Mishawaka (I love saying “Mishawaka” lol) and made plans to do some fun things while we were in the area. But, as is typical for us, the weather got in the way of a few of the plans. We had wanted to ride the motorcycle, but it rained and rained and rained some more. One day, we drove down to Fort Wayne and met with a couple that used to full-time in their RV as well as on their boat....

2019 Life in our RV

Jun 18, 2019 - quick trip to Indy

When I last posted, I mentioned that we were having some issues with Mo’s slides. Michael, the Grand Design service tech assigned to the East Coast came to Savannah to check our slides and unfortunately was unable to repair them. The kitchen slide has a bad hydraulic cylinder and the gears appear to be stripped. The dining room slide (opposite the kitchen slide) is catawampus – that’s a technical term for screwed up. To make matters worse, during the monsoon in Savannah, the bedroom slide started to leak. So, we are 3 for 3 in the slide...

Spring Trip 2018

Jul 11, 2017 - Cravings....

There is this bakery in Middlebury, IN called Rise 'N Roll. They make Caramel Cinnamon doughnuts and doughnut holes. This WONDERFUL, melt in your mouth, pastry is called Amish Crack because you just can't stop eating it. This is evidenced by the fact that whenever we are in this area, Bob HAS to visit. So this morning we left Indianapolis and drove to Middlebury. Last night's bad weather was not so bad here, except for the rain. It rained off and on all night. At one point I got up and stepped in a small puddle. OH NO NOT AGAIN!! As it...

Utah and Back

Aug 20, 2015 - Middlebury, IN

We traveled from Port Clinton, OH to Middlebury, IN On Monday. Tuesday we visited the RV/MH Museum in Elkhart. We are glad we went there, several vintage RV’s from the early 1900’s to the 80’s. RV’s have come a long long way since then. This was approximately an two hour stint, so we drove on to South Bend in the afternoon to visit the Studebaker Museum. We had no Idea it would be so big. Three floors; one with nearly a decade of buggy development on display, the second floor had all the cars they ever built, and the third was Military...

Oct 3, 2011 - Elkhart and Middlebury

On a beautiful (68 sunny degrees) day we drove around Northern Indiana's Amish country from our campground in Elkhart to Middlebury. First, we stopped at the Elkhart Visitor Center and obtained brochures and maps on 1) a Heritage Trail which has "Elk-on-Parade" throughout the communities; 2) quilt floral designs and murals planted or painted at various sites throughout the communities; and 3) factory RV surplus stores (you never know what you might see that you just must have). Although the quilt floral designs had been a scenic marketing...

Wandering Woodruffs

Sep 23, 2010 - 2nd Trip To Middlebury

From Elkhart Campground – Elkhart, IN Today, we toured our second RV factory……Jayco in Middlebury. We decided to tour this manufacturer when it was discovered that they were replacing their older Designer model with a new one in 2011 called the Pinnacle. Rudy had also talked to a new owner of this model at our recent overnight stop in Claremore, OK. Jayco had its beginning in 1968 when the founder began building “pop up” trailers on his farm in 2 chicken coops and the family barn. Today, it is the largest privately owned RV manufacturer in...

Home Sweet RV - 2010

Sep 18, 2010 - Small Community's Fall Festival Celebration

From Elkhart Campground – Elkhart, IN With overcast skies and rain predicted for mid to late afternoon, we decided to get out early and drive to the nearby small community of Middlebury to check out the Fall Festival event taking place on Main Street yesterday and today. Middlebury also had another attraction I had placed on our “to do” list that was only available on Saturdays so both these places seemed to make up a good itinerary for the day. However, Meadow Brook Farm which in area tourist marketing was touted as having a history back...

Jun 19, 2010 - Day 2: Indiana Amish Country

We had another long day today, driving a little over 500 miles. We drove through the rest of New York, a small tip of Pennsylvania, all of Ohio, and through some of Indiana. We are now enjoying the evening in our kamping kabin at a KOA. It is adequate with a set of bunk beds, a full-size bed, an air conditioner, a ceiling fan, and a few electrical outlets. It has a porch on the front of the kabin with a swing on it. Highlights of the day: Seeing all the grape vines along New York and Pennsylvania's I-90 Seeing all the farm country along...
