Oct 16, 2011 - Arrival in Indiana

We left the Kellogg RV Park around 9:00 (49 degrees). The truck started right up and is running well! We stopped at a Pilot for fuel and around lunch time we stopped at the Iowa Machine Shed (Exit 292) near Davenport, IA. We first stopped here in 1981 (or maybe 82) when the Vermont Game Wardens’ Pistol Team was en-route to the Police Combat Nationals in Des Moines. Fellow game warden John Kapusta found the restaurant with his 6th sense. He has a good nose for food! It was as good as we remembered from the 80s! I had forgotten how rolling...

Jun 17, 2009 - Our hectic rush to get on the road to Gettysburg

Joy had a brainfart !!! For some reason I didn’t think we had to be in Gettysburg until Friday night for Bob’s National family reunion (the 300th anniversary of the Meiser/Meizer/Mizer/Miser/Meisser, etc. family’s arrival in America). I got an email after lunch on Wednesday, and realized we needed to be there by Thursday night. Getting old is not fun, folks… (Later my co-workers said they had...

May 2, 2009 - La Porte, IN - La Porte County Historical Society Museum

We then drove straight east on US-24 to Reynolds, IN. This was a very pleasant drive through very nice farming areas and small to medium sized towns. For the most part both the towns and the farms are very neat and attractive. I’ll bet the farmers are all hoping for a few days without rain so they can get in the fields and get the crops planted. From Reynolds we headed...

Oct 10, 2008 - OTRA- IN - LaPorte

Off to a late start this morning…I guess it’s because we’re out of practice on “getting up and going”. We’ve been at my brother's for a complete month and a half and it was oh, so hard to leave. We’d probably have stayed much longer if winter weren’t on it’s way. So anyway, off at 12:30 and had an easy drive the whole way. Lots of truck traffic but I just drive along at 60 mph in my lane and all is well. I’ve found 60 mph is a good spot for the truck while pulling…about 13 mpg. I’ve not tried slower than that but, even though the mpg might...
