Apr 15, 2013 - Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Channeling our inner Jim Nabors, we’re “Back Home in Indiana” staying at the state fair grounds in Indianapolis; an impressive conglomerate of permanent buildings including an enormous indoor arena and one-mile outdoor trotting track surrounded by paddocks, each named in honor of a famous Indiana resident prominent in the history of harness racing. Of course, two of the bigger buildings were 4H and the Future Farmers of America. Today, we visited the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and took a 90 minute track tour. The track is 2 ½ miles around...

Apr 14, 2013 - On the Road Again!

We left yesterday morning and traveled further than we planned…good news. And…bad. The good news was that we traveled 405 miles instead of the 320 we planned. The bad news was that we (shorthand for I) had to figure out a new place to stay. Luckily, along I-70, there are plenty of Wal-marts, our favorite first night spot so we wound up in Cambridge, Ohio perched on a hill. Cooked the traditional meal; shrimp cocktail, a cocktail (Bloody Mary), filet mignon, baked potato and fresh green beans. Yum! This morning, we left and drove to...

Feb 20, 2013 - My Day in Indianapolis

Here in Indianapolis it´s a bit colder than in Atlantic City. The average Temperatur is 11.2°c . The Height about sealevel is much more than in Atlantic City!241 metres! The day I was there, there was pretty good weather, a bit colder than my day in Atlantic City, but not so much rain. Over all the precipitation misses 996 mm per year. My Day in Indianapolis was very interesting. I visited the Indianapolis Zoo and the Beef and Boards Dinner Theatre. It was really pretty cool to see the exotic animals in the zoo, and the Beef and Boards...

Jan 2, 2013 - Day 1 of our trip to get someplace warm ...

Down the road on day 1 of our trip to get away from the cold and the snow for a while. We ran out of snow in the Chicago area (we drove down through the loop area to see all those buildings that hold so much hay) ... then we ran back into snow about a hour north of Indianapolis ... and it was cold there, too. OK ... so far, not so good to get away from the snow and cold. We spent the night with my favorite family member living in Indiana ... that would be nephew Paul and his family ... Ashley, Owen, Lucy, and Dottie. They are such a cool...

Winter 2013

Oct 1, 2012 - Trip preparation and background

We are all excited about the upcoming start of our trip. On Tuesday, October 16 big Al (Mendelsohn) and Mike leave from Indianapolis for Tokyo. They will spend 3 days in Japan while little Al (Dinner) will be traveling to Los Angeles. Since little Al has been to Japan many times he will skip the Japan portion of the trip and visit with Josh and Chelsea and Johnny and Trever for 2 days. LIttle Al then flies to Seoul, South Korea on Thursday, October 18 and the great threesome will meet up in Seoul on Saturday, October 20 to begin their...

Sep 30, 2012 - Back Home (Again!) in Indiana

We returned to Indianapolis (it is beginning to feel like the movie "Groundhog Day") for a last stint here with family before resuming our journey East and South. The big event was a (somewhat) impromptu reunion of Therese's family at sister Marge's home in Columbus. All four of the Wontorek sibs and their respective mates, along with our niece and her husband from Tucson and nephew from Springfield, IL spent a week eating (constantly), drinking (frequently), golfing (daily), LAUGHING (a lot), and sharing one bathroom (!!). Dave...

Aug 30, 2012 - Day Four

Well, the “Fat lady” has sung or is currently singing since the final concert is underway. The last three days have been a whirlwind of seminars, viewing MHs and spending money. Phyl attended several seminars related to MH maintenance while Bob attended a couple of seminars he almost walked out of. It seems that the seminars he chose to attend were either geared toward diesel pushers or to sell the speaker’s product. For the most part the week was full of informative stuff and we’re glad we attended but we probably won’t attend next year’s...

Aug 29, 2012 - August 29th - tour of the Indy 500 racetrack at Speedway, Indiana

We toured the Indy 500 racetrack today. We enjoyed the museum and seeing all the cars that ever raced on the track. The tour bus drove us all the way around the track allowing us to get out and "kiss" the finish line which is made up of the original track of bricks. We were taken through the press rooms and down onto the winner's platform. We were driven through the garage area too. It was a terrific tour and we like everyone else said "we had no clue it was so big"! The tour was a great treat for us. Enjoy my photos.

Aug 27, 2012 - Day One

We awoke this morning to a torrential downpour. Luckily we are high enough to avoid being flooded, unlike a few of the folks parked on the parking lot. The parking lot is slanted to the middle to facilitate drainage, however when it rains harder than the drains can handle, flooding occurs. The downpour slowed to a gentle shower long enough for the water to drain then started raining harder but hard not enough to flood, just make large puddles. Phyl wanted to go over to the Information area and decided to wear her tennis shoes instead of her...

Aug 26, 2012 - At the Indiana State Fairgrounds

We are staying here for 6 nights. We are here for a Family Motor Coach Rally. We will visit the Indy 500 speedway on Wednesday. In the meantime we attend seminars and sales booths and tour new motor homes. The weather is hot and muggy. Yesterday and today we had high ozone levels around the area. Yuk. Shades of Los Angeles. Traffic and crowds my favorite things - NOT.

Aug 26, 2012 - Three in one/2

So, Friday morning we leisurely started packing up for our trip south. Our plan was to be out of Colon by 1100, but since we have had a lot of practice “breaking camp”, we were ready to go before 1000. Bob drove the rental car to Sturgis and Phyl finished up, said goodbye to Martha and soon was on her way to pick Bob up. Everything was going according to plan, but then you know what they say about the “best laid plans”, Phyl drove up to the Enterprise office and there sat Bob in the car. The man in the office was out picking up someone and...

Aug 23, 2012 - On the Road to FMCA

We left North Carolina on August 23 and headed towards Indiana. We drove into West Virginia and stopped at Tamarack, a lovely arts and crafts center. Amazing display of local talent. On through Ohio and into Indiana. We were sad to see so many cornfields suffering from the drought. We stopped at the Warm Candle Co., in Centerville, Indiana. What a neat place! So much to see and enjoy! We arrived at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis on Friday. On Saturday, we stayed at the fairgrounds all day watching all the motor homes arrive...
