Sep 17, 2015 - Detroit to Indianapolis

It's been five months since I made my last entry in this journal. During that time I visited friends and family in Detroit, Chicago, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. I took an overnight trip to Toledo and discovered the many interesting places there -even got to eat at Tony Packo's ( made uber famous by Jamie Farr in MASH TV show.) Did the IMAX thing, and had three separate visits from RV friends which translated into 3 more trips to the Motown Museum, 3 lunches at the Firebird, 3 visits to Belle Isle, 3 tours of the GM building and 3...

Aug 9, 2015 - Leaving Indianapolis

Pete left for Hong Kong today, via Toronto, on a 6 AM flight. When we arrived at the Indianapolis airport at 4 AM, we were very surprised to find it super crowded. On closer inspection, we discovered that, since most of the people were young musicians who had been in Indianapolis competing in the Drum Corps International competition, we had lots in common with them, including the fact that many of them were travelling with musical instruments. Also, as we waited for Pete to complete his check in process, we ran into several Tech band...

Aug 2, 2015 - Indianapolis, Indiana

Pete arrived back in Indianapolis late this evening. The Royal Caribbean Compassionate Leave policy allows for up to two weeks away from the ship but, in order to accommodate the strict policies about American sailors in Asia, he will be returning in about 10 days.

Jul 17, 2015 - July 16 - Second Stop - Indianapolis, IN

Arrived at Indy Lake RV Park at 2:30pm. Nothing special about the park except that they have a lake for campers and the public to fish. They keep it well stocked and their office is filled with fishing gear for sale. We are here to visit my daughter, Lauren. Had dinner with her and her husband, Steve at their house. Sookie Had a great time playing with her part Yorkie dog. Kay spent an hour on the phone with Direct TV to try to get the wiring correctly hooked up to the satellite receiver box so the living room TV works with the new...

Jul 16, 2015 - Leaving Indianapolis

After a couple of months running around Indianapolis, Peter flew out of Indy today, stopping in Chicago, heading to Hong Kong. He spent the last few days picking up items he needed for the contract, including new dress shoes and tux shirts to replace the ones that were so worn out after the last contract that he just threw them away, rather than take up room in his suitcase to bring them home. Although he was not quite ready to leave Indianapolis, he was ready to get started on the new contract which will last until February.

Jul 3, 2015 - Continuing down the road

Today took us from Bluffton, Ohio, to Indianapolis, Indiana. Leah got to see her first wind turbine farm. We got as close as we could get to the turbines so that Leah could see just how big they are. I love how graceful they look, like ballerinas dancing across the ridge. Looking forward to celebrating the 4th here in Indianapolis.

THERE AND BACK AGAIN

May 19, 2015 - Indianapolis, Indiana

We spent 3 days in Indianapolis. The first two days the weather was rainy so we did not do any exploring. The last full day we took a Fun Trolly Tour. It was nearly 1.5 hours and we drove all around and were shown the sites. The only place we stopped was the Indianapolis Speedway. Parking in Indianapolis was impossible for our big truck. We lucked out on a space just for the trolly ride. Had we wanted to explore more, parking would have ruined everything. I do regret not going to Long's Bakery. I almost went but then thought I did not need...

Jan 29, 2015 - Getting Close

We were at the Camping World ready to go at 8 a.m. since we wanted to get to Indianapolis for the evening. We booked a hotel room since we couldn't use any of the water systems in the Casita after it was winterized. Of course, Camping World did not get to us at 8 a.m., or 9 a.m.; in fact, it was closer to 9:30 before they came to get the trailer. Another couple in a big class A was supposed to be getting their rig winterized and a couple of repairs done, but when they weren't taken in at the appointed time, they left quite angrily. Finally,...

Nov 19, 2014 - On the way!

Peter left from Indianapolis early this morning with all of his luggage and three instruments, including the new flute he bought while he was on vacation. He is looking forward to a great adventure and will arrive in Singapore tomorrow. He will join the ship two days from now, after about 25 hours of flying/airport time and a relaxing night in a hotel in Singapore.

Oct 18, 2014 - Indianapolis, Indiana USA

After leaving the ship in Singapore, Peter flew through Qatar and Philadelphia to arrive home in Indianapolis shortly before noon today. Unfortunately, his luggage was held up in customs in Philadelphia and it arrived at our house at about 6:30 this evening! After visiting at church during Octoberfest and having dinner with Aunt Lisa and Uncle Jan this evening, he is home, asleep in his own bed. He has to be back on the ship for the next contract on November 21. His trip completely circled the globe, since he left on March 6, heading west...

Aug 21, 2014 - Indiana is for Dairy

After 3 days of driving a minimum of about 1,350 kilograms a day we decided we were entitled to a breather. Actually, we still decided to get up at 8; be on a train to downtown Chi-town by 9; and spend the morning and early afternoon seeing the sights. Mostly the giant chrome jelly bean in Millennium Park, actually. God had other plans. He made it rain (really hard) in the early morning. And he (she? whatever?) also made it so that Liz’s raincoat is packed up in boxes on a moving truck in Montreal (more on that in a moment). Liz note: Not...

Jul 6, 2014 - Our annual Indianapolis Visit

After an easy 199 mile drive from Cave City, we arrived at our Indianapolis-area home park, Lake Haven Retreat. This is the same park that we have stayed in for the last three seasons, so we reconnected with friends there and felt quite at home. We spent the rest of April and May visiting with our families – mom, brothers, sisters, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and grand (!!!!) nieces and nephews. As one might imagine, it was a busy and joyful time catching up with and enjoying the company of our loved ones. We said our...
