Sep 22, 2017 - "Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!"

Anxious to get started on my last day so I ended up at Indianapolis Motor Speedway about 15 minutes before the museum opened. Building was inside the 2.5 mile oval of the speed way so you had to go through a tunnel under the grand stands to get there. Town where speedway is located is called...Speedway, Indiana of course. Museum was essentially one large room although there were a couple of smaller glass enclosed areas and another small area in the back. Reminded more of hotel ballrooms than a typical museum. Included samples cars from the...

Sep 14, 2017 - Day 16

Decided to do a little sightseeing today. We are really in a great location. Downtown Indianapolis is only about a 15 minute drive. So we drove there, parked near the War Memorial and had lunch at a local fried chicken place called "The Eagle". Excellent fried chicken; would go there again. Walked to the War Memorial and strolled around the large park before going inside the museum. No charge! How about that. Exceptionally well done museum focusing on the contribution of Indiana military. Starts with the Revolutionary War and goes right up...

Sep 13, 2017 - Day 15 - Lake Haven RV Park, Indianapolis, IN

Good day to travel a short distance. Steady rain from Irma remnants all day. So wet that we decided to not load the car on the tow dolly. Wendy followed behind. Hardest part was dragging the tow dolly out of the mud so I could hook it up to the RV. It was a struggle but I got it done. Less than an 2 hour drive, so it was pretty routine. Park is ok, gravel sites but pretty level. Very crowded, but there's a decent space between sites so it works ok. There's a small lake right in front of us - hence Lake Haven. First opportunity for laundry...

Sep 1, 2017 - The Ingram Duo and the Indy 500

The Ingram Duo plus one (Leo) is at it again. On May 18 we traveled to Black Mountain to spend a week at a favorite campground, Mama Gerties. The week was restful since it rained a few days which made it hard to go tour anything so we enjoyed sticking close to the motor home and Jim practiced his piano. We left Black Mountain and headed to Indianapolis for the big Indy 500 race on May 28. Jim went online and researched the whole process of ordering tickets, choosing your parking space, seating and anything else we would need to know so we...

Sep 1, 2017 - So many festivals, so little time!

Festivals abound in Indy! We couldn’t possibly make it to them all…but we certainly gave it our best shot. The summer was crammed from Pride Festival in June to the Indy Fringe Festival in August, yet the fun didn’t stop there. Local businesses, such as Indy Reads Books, invited us to birthday bashes and other activities. Nearby Fountain Square held an arts festival with a quirky parade and colorful booths that set the tone for fun. October also saw its share of festivals, beginning with several German-inspired Octoberfests all over town....

Jul 15, 2017 - Another for the History Books

Tonight was the end of the 96th International Convention of the FMCA-Crossroads to Fun. That is what the convention in Indianapolis was called. It has been a so-so convention. Like I said before, it seems like each one gets a little less, at least in our opinion. So yesterday we spent all day on the fairgrounds. Bob mostly just sat around and waited for me to do whatever. We started the day at a seminar by THE RV DOCTOR, Gary Bunzer. He has been RVing for about 40 years and knows just about everything. He has been a presenter at FMCA for...

Jul 13, 2017 - My 15 minutes of fame

Well, actually it was about 6 hours. Yesterday was the Governing Board meeting. I left the campground about 7 am and drove into the fairgrounds. The meeting officially started at 9:05 and ended at 3:40. We got the business completed and now I will not have to do this again, not sure why someone would do this year after year. Once or twice is OK for the experience, but after that it would be self punishment. Since I went in so early, Bob rode in with Larry and Doni but they didn't come in until noon since the vendors didn't open until then....

Jul 12, 2017 - Meetings all day

July 12 – 15, 2017, 12th was the governing board meeting all day. Major work was done, 2 proposals were shot down and the main one to allow towables passed after hammering out the details for the definition of a towable. Visited vendors and looked at very few new coaches. Visited with friends, had dinner out a few times, and bought stuff, clothing, jewelry, a tru-align system for my back and other odds and ends,

Jul 11, 2017 - Indianapolis

July 11, 2017, Meeting at 8:00 this morning to get the skinny on the meeting tomorrow. Unfortunately, it lasted until 11:00 when we can grab a bite to eat. I have a meeting on seminar training at 12:00 and then it is back to more discussions at 1 until 3:00. As we are sitting in the morning meeting it starts raining, thunder & lightning. When we come out of lunch and head for my seminar meeting it is pouring. We are constantly getting messages on the weather and that we need to shelter in place. All of the buildings are shelters as several...

Jul 10, 2017 - Happy Birthday, Brandon

Yesterday was a day of reminiscing. I started the day by going to church. The Mt Comfort UMC is a pretty large church and when I walked in, I thought the service might be contemporary, but once I read the bulletin, I realized it wasn't. The minister was new to the church and he didn't look like a minister. Guess the "new generation" of ministers are just different. The sermon was about making disciples to transform the world, which is the mission statement of the UMC. It was pretty good. Anyway, upon returning home, I put stuff in the...

Jul 8, 2017 - Indy, finally

We left West St Louis about 9 am on Friday and arrived in Greenfield, IN at the Indianapolis KOA about 4 pm (EDT). It was a long day and it wasn't without snags! But I'm beginning to think that snags are a part of our life now. Since we had the problem with the car battery we have been starting the car every time we stop. However, that didn't work yesterday. Even though we started the car several times, when we stopped at the last rest area before Indianapolis, the battery was nearly dead. So once we got settled and hooked up, we used the...
