Oct 20, 2019 - Beautiful Fall Day for Traveling

Today's route took us along US 150 and US 136 in Illinois and Indiana on a beautiful fall day. I chose US 136 because it goes through Rantoul, IL. Chanute Air Force Base was located there, but it was decommissioned in 1993 and turned over to the local government. While active, it served as the center of Air Force technical training which included fire fighting. My father spent over 20 years as a civilian firefighter for the Air Force and at one point in the 70's attended school at Chanute. I've got some pictures of his graduating class, but...

Jul 27, 2019 - Day 15

Today we're visiting Vincennes, Indiana. Our plan is to visit the George Rogers Clark National Historic Site, and Grouseland, the home of William Henry Harrison. The day got started in what is becoming the usual way. Breakfast then pack, check out and get on the road at around 10:15. We drove the 2 hour drive to Vincennes and the George Rogers Clark Historic Site. I will admit, I had no idea who George Rogers Clark was. We arrived and went to the visitors' center. We were welcomed by a park employee who told us that the site consisted of a...

Jul 26, 2019 - Day 14

Today we had two locations on our agenda...the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum and the home of Benjamin Harrison. We went downstairs for what has become our usual breakfast, and were out the door by 10:15. Ok, not exactly first thing in the morning. but both of our stops were close to our hotel. Our first stop was the Speedway museum, high on Cheryl's list. Miss Google said the trip should take about 25 minutes. When we did our research on the speedway, we discovered that they not only have the museum, but also offer tours of the race...

Jul 25, 2019 - Day 13

Today we are leaving Cincinnati and heading for Dayton. There were two things we had hoped to see there, the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historic Park, and the America's Packard Museum. We started the day a little later than we had hoped, but still in pretty good shape. We went down to breakfast, finished packing our bags and checked out...all while avoiding elevator 5. We got our car out of the parking lot and were on our way. We chose to head for the Dayton Aviation NHP. This is a national park that celebrates the accomplishments of...

May 27, 2019 - Headed to Indy

Uneventful ride up to Indy. I think the roads might have been a little better than they were last year when we were heading up through Indiana to the Tiffin Rally in Goshen. Go set up in the KOA, site D28. No satellite due to nice shade tree, and the sewer connection was uphill from the site. If we make it back to this KOA, we'll try to get site N4, N5 or N6. Weather forecast called for some rain during our stay, but the cooler temps were nice.

Summer 2019

May 21, 2019 - May 20 Back to Colorado

It was the most incredible trip home – we went through the whole spectrum of weather on the way home. We were both wearing shorts because it was warm in Indiana, but it wasn’t too warm in Colorado – we came home to a snowstorm. Now, we are happy we didn’t have time to plant our flowers before we left!!! There was only one day during our trip when there wasn’t rain or snow – amazing! We tried the delayed shipping sale in our Etsy shop while we were gone – we had 50 sales!!! We will be packing like crazy the rest of this week!!!

May 21, 2019 - May 19 - Back to Indiana

The UNO Championship ended up – Jeff/4 games; Kim/3 games; Gene/2 games; Sara/2 games; Jackie/1 game. It will resume in June in Colorado. We had beef brisket and pulled pork with all the fixings. We played with the youngest members of our family – our great niece and great nephew, Elise and Griffin. Tomorrow, back to Colorado.

May 12, 2019 - Visit to Southport IN

We decided to hone our shopping skills for Brimfield by doing a little shopping in Southport, IN. We are SO glad the antique mall is there to give us an excuse to go to Long’s Bakery which is a little piece of heaven on earth. We purchased glazed doughnuts, fried cinnamon rolls, nutty buns, chocolate filled long johns, caramel frosted gators (THE BEST), and more. The Southport Antique Mall was having a HUGE sale on merchandise inside, as well as a small outdoor flea market. We had our scavenger list made up and the hunt was ON. The weird...

May 11, 2019 - Day 2 - Boonville to Indianapolis

It took about 6 hours for us to get to Indianapolis. When we got to Carmel to see Jeff and Jackie and Sara, Gene saw a garage sale sign and drove right by their street like I wouldn’t see it. I made him turn around at the next round about and go back! Coming across the Mississippi, there were houses, barns and silos under water. It was really high. We got held up on the highway by some airplane wings – no! they were not blades for the windmills. They were from Boeing in Washington. There is a GIGANTIC cross when we drive into Effingham,...

Oct 5, 2018 - long day!

I left Amana before 8 AM and had breakfast at a rest area. From there I stopped to get gas, and at another rest area to send a text. But in no place did I stop for more than 10 minutes! And I got to the campground southwest of the center of the city at 5:20 (I lost an hour also.) Then I got confused as to how to get to my site and got "lost". A worker that was luckily there, opened a gate for me to go out to the road and start over again because I really couldn't get there from here!!! The site isn't level and it took a bit to get it...
