Jul 29, 2013 - Huntington, IN

Mon, 29 Jul: A very long, interesting, and tiring day... We awoke early, to the alarm, as we had to get Carpe ready to travel a few hundred meters from our overnite boondocking spot to the HWH service facility across the road. Regardless if we travel a few hundred feet or a few hundred miles, the preparations are pretty much the same, so we diligently went thru our departure checklists. We pulled into the service area about 0730 and got checked in for our 0800 appointment. HWH is the company that manufactures the hydraulic components that...

Jul 22, 2010 - Huntington, Indiana

We are in Huntington, Indiana & visiting with friends Wayne, Shirley, Nonda & Jerry. They are friends who spend their winters in Picacho, Arizona & come back home to Indiana for the summer months. We arrived here on Wednesday & payed for a two night stay at the Timber Lake Campground. Wayne & Shirley showed us around town & gave us a dinning experience we won't soon forget. (inside joke between them & us). Really though we had a wonderful time here even if it was for only a couple of days. We started our day at Nick's Cafe in town, hanging...

Jul 23, 2009 - Huntington, IN

I came through this town with skinny streets on my way to Decatur and thought buildings were interesting, so I cam back to visit and see what's here. The Wabash River flows through the city and I read that the Wabash and Erie (!!!) Canal came through here before the railroads. But once the railroad came through town, the canal was abandoned. The traditional churches are big, elaborate buildings, but so is the funeral home! The Huntington Court House takes up a whole block. Citizens are proud that the town is where Dan Quayle comes from. He...

Apr 15, 2009 - Huntington, Indiana (Camp Timberlake RV Park)

April 15/09 We left the Casino Queen behind and travelled on Hwy 70 through Illinois into Indiana and then north on Hwy 69. We had to fill up which we hate to do in Indiana because there are only 5 states that puts a surtax on diesel at the pumps. We travelled on some back roads in the country. And we spend the night at Camp Timberlake RV Park just outside of Fort Wayne, Indiana near Huntington. No cable so we watched Wallace and Grommet. Campground Notes: Passport America, $15 50 E/S/W, pull through (small turns not easy), relatively new...

Jun 21, 2007 - Movin' thru Indiana

Hello everyone, today finds us in Huntington Indiana, hometown of that loveable Vice President Dan Quayle, quite a nice town. There's not been not a lot other than pedaling today till we stopped on the roadside to take some pictures of all these creations. We were hungry and took a break and sat in the grass when a gentleman walked into the field with his dogs. The jackrussel wouldn't let up and the man called out to us to come on up to his house with our bikes. He then offered to give a tour of all of his creations he has made over the years....
