Jun 18, 2018 - Howe, IN

Mon, 18 Jun: A short drive, with major hassles... Today gives proof that the adage that just when you thought things couldn't get worse, they do! Yes, it was that kind of a Monday. First off, it was a hot nite. The outside temps. in Van Wert never got below 80°F and even with all our vent fans running it was hot and sticky inside. We ran our a/c until it was time for bed and we shut down our generator. We both got some sleep, but it wasn't the most restful of nites. So we were both a tad cranky from the git go. We were out of bed a bit...

Jul 9, 2015 - Day 2

"Raindrops keep falling on my head" or the roof of the motor home to be more exact. Rain stayed with us as we traveled across Ohio. It finally stopped when we reached Indiana but the sky remains overcast and threatening. It was another day of driving. The rain and construction kept us moving at a moderate rate. We arrived at Grandview Bend campground in Howe, Ind. In mid afternoon. Howe is in northern Indiana 50 miles east of South Bend. It is the epitome of rural America. The town square is surrounded by homes and a few shops. You can walk...

Lay of the land

Jun 18, 2015 - Northeast Indiana

RAIN, RAIN, and more RAIN! We really shouldn't complain as this is the first bad weather we have experienced for all of last year and this year so far. With the exception of the rain we are once again staying at a really nice park with a boating lake close by. Elkhart is the home of many RV manufacturers and the RV Hall of Fame which we visited today. Very interesting and worth seeing. Lots of vintage RVs dating back as far as 1913. This area is home to quite a few Amish and Mennonite communities. We found it to be very commercialized with...

May 21, 2015 - Howe, Indiana

We spent two nights so that we could take the trailer to the Quadra factory, maker of Big Foot Levelers. Our Big Foot was not working right. Quadra fixed in and also gave us a new control box. Only cost us 1 hour of labor and $64 in parts. While the worked on it we ate breakfast at Rachel's, our favorite place to eat breakfast in White Pigeon, Michigan.

Jul 28, 2014 - Howe, Indiana July

Well, things didn't start out this week quite the way we had hoped. On our last day in Pittsburgh, or so we thought, we took the RV in to the Freightliner shop to have the ABS system repaired... dash light came on before we got here indicating a potential problem. Took it in to the shop and they diagnosed the problem, but didn't have the part. Interesting as I had originally set the repair up at a different truck shop, but changed my mind when they said they might be longer on the repair if they had to order a part, so I decided to take it...

Jul 14, 2014 - On to Indiana

We were on the road by 9am and I was sorry to see that the GPS said we had a 6 hour drive to Indiana. UGH! We were all tired of sitting in the RV driving so many hours and this was especially true of Rocky. He's not getting enough exercise to get rid of all his puppy energy and because of this he keeps getting himself in trouble. Tonight he found a wire near the door of the RV and when he pulled on it, he broke the switch which automatically puts out the stairs. So all of our patience is being stretched thin right now and we're wondering if...

May 22, 2012 - Travel to Indiana

Today we traveled through PA, OH and arrived in Howe, IN. We passed by many grapes orchards; small plants waiting for the warm weather. Due to road construction, it was slow moving today & we arrived at our campground, Grand View Bend, at 4:00. We are in Amish country. While setting up for our 2 day stay at this location I heard & then saw a horse & buggy go by. Our site is next to corn fields & is a beautiful, serene spot. Perfect for getting a good night's sleep..... Right?? We traveld 315 miles.

Jul 29, 2011 - Indiana - The Quicker the Better

Interstate 80/90, An Unknown Rest Stop Howe, IN So we arrived in Indiana. All the humans agree that Indiana is their least favorite state of the ones we've visited so far. All I know is that the big humans bought some earphones and a crushed penny. And yes, I did christen Indiana as well. And that's all the time we spent there. Little Johnny's turning green - Yumi peed in his canteen... my bad.

Home Sweet RV - 2010

Sep 19, 2010 - Chapter 46 Rally

It has been a really good rally. Lots of rocking chair time. Super lots of good food. Saturday morning we started off with eggs in a bag. Then lunch was on our own as we went to Shippshewana to sightsee. Saturday night we went to the Blue Gate Restaurant. It was great food, family style, chicken and beef with all the sides. We had a private room, which was very nice. Sunday morning we had a potluck breakfast. I made biscuits and gravy but ate too much of all the other great goodies. Ron and I didn’t even go over for the hot dog roast at...

Summer 2010 Travels

Jul 12, 2010 - Amish Country Indiana...aka Yoderville

We drove into familiar territory on Monday. We’ve stayed in Howe, IN before and like this area as it’s close to Shipshewana, which has a HUGE flea market on Tuesday and Wednesdays. We only planned on staying a few days but I planned our stay to coincide with the flea market, which is always a lot of fun….especially all the great Amish vegetable and fruit stands. We call this area Yoderville because it seems that everyone has the last name of Yoder. And the businesses are the same…Yoder’s Meat and Cheese, Yoder Trucking, Yoder Dairy...

Jun 26, 2010 - RV factory

Excellent time here. Went on a factory tour, and then a historical tour of the area. There is a lot of Amish in the area. Also went to one of the largest Flea Markets (or so they advertise). Had some work done on our house while here and got a lot of questions answered. Next stop - Wright Patterson AFB Ohio
