Jun 1, 2019 - Greenfield, Indiana

It’s another travel day. We are headed home. You cannot see the country from the Interstate but it moves you across the country quicker. We have crossed Illinois and Indiana many times in our wander mode. Today we continue on the Interstate. We stop for gas. We stop at a rest area. We decide to stop south of Indianapolis. The campground is full. Oops. I call the KOA that is east of Indianapolis. They have a site for us. The last ten miles of the Indianapolis beltway are slow going. 70 East in Indianapolis is closed for construction....

May 29, 2018 - Greenfield, Indiana

We had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. However, all good things must come to an end. It is time to move west. John H fixes breakfast. It is wonderful. John and Peggy kid about sabotaging the RV to keep us in Sunbury. We declare this the best RV Park anywhere! We finally get on the road. We take Route 42 to the interstate. We could stay completely off the interstate but we need to make some time today. We make our first Walmart stop. We eat lunch in the RV. We continue on to the Indianapolis KOA. We check in by 2:30. Not too bad. Still,...

DANCE ACROSS AMERICA

Oct 15, 2011 - Jed(Butch) Clampett

Jed says he didn't hit oil, but he is loading up and heading for CAL-IF-OR-NEA anyway! No Kim, he isn't taking the pink jacket! We're almost ready, we hope, and plan to leave Sunday mid morning. We have the party at Donnie's tonight, so we've got about 2 hours left today to finalize all of our errands. My next blog should be someplace along the road. Stay tuned!

Oct 7, 2011 - grandma thing

Doing the "grandma and grandpa" thing today by attending the Riley Days Flower Parade. Both Meg and Abbey(2nd graders)were marching with their flowers. Abbey was dancing most of the way (GC Band in front of them) Meg was smelling her flowers then sneezing! Both were having lots of fun. I guess the school personnel doesn't have as much fun as the students. Butch has had wonderful luck on painting our house this week. The weather is fabulous. He is working so hard, I try to give him pep talks as much as possible! He should finish it by this...

Oct 4, 2011 - 12 days and counting

Welcome to my journal! 12 days before embarking on this big trip. Last night we discovered that our satellite system still isn't working, after having it repaired(supposedly). So, I will be making phone calls today! OK. so it was us, but until I talked with the service dept. they hadn't told me HOW to turn on the satellite. Now, it's sort of working, we just have to learn how to program the satellites. I just hope every campground has cable and we don't need the satellite. This sure is the "roughin" it kind of camping, but the only kind I...

Jun 14, 2011 - Indy Speedway

Today we visited the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The first Indy 500 was run one hundred years ago in 1911 but the track opened three years before that. It was created as a testing ground for the "new" automobile industry which had sprung up around Indianapolis as well as a race venue. The first races did not draw enough of a crowd, so it was decided to have only one race per year with a big purse and run it for 500 miles. No races were run during WWI and after the war Eddie Rickenbacker bought the track. He and his partners ran it until...

We stopped for lunch and were at the RV Park by about 5:30pm (change of time zones). This park is big and has trees but they are not near the sites. Aug 17, 2010 - RC Helicopters and Family Visits!

We pulled into the 1000 acre American Modeling Association site about 2 pm. We were in phone contact with Cousin Jerry and he did a great job guiding us close to our site. Cars were parked all around the site he had saved for us, so we simply waited until the cars left for the day and moved the trailer so we could have electricity. The weather was hot, hot, humid, hot, humid and more humidity, so having the electricity for the air conditioning was really important for comfort. That evening, Jerry and Ed B-B-Qed Alaskan halibut which Jerry...

Jun 6, 2009 - The Rocky Road to Indy

Yikes, I-70 through Indiana is an ugly road. We rocked, rolled, shook and shuddered over the potholes and sharp entrances and exits from bridges. Luckily, there wasn't much traffic so Joe was able to dodge the worst ones by lane changing frequently. There is a little construction going on so, hopefully, this road will be improved. Otherwise, we had an uneventful day, just made a couple of stops for breaks and lunch. We decided we wanted to press on through Indianapolis and stop early for an overnight stop. We are in Greenfield, Indiana at a...

May 20, 2009 - Greenfield, Indiana

Good trip today with beautiful weather...sunny, no clouds, cool breeze. We arrived in Greenfield, IN, at the Indy KOA about 4pm. We had not realized that the Indy 500 is to be run on Monday. Luckily, we are staying only one night. Rumor has it that the campground will be full to overflowing over the three day holiday.
