We drove to the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site, Presidential Library and Museum in West Branch, Iowa. Did not remember anything about him but came to know more. He is portrayed as a great humanitarian and there was evidence to prove it.He was blamed for the Great Depression but there is some controversy about that. On the grounds is his birthplace home and also his and his wife Lou’s graves in a very pretty setting. We spent about 2.5 hours and then got back on the road. 21Jun12 -We traveled to Indiana today stopping at the T&A truck stop for the night. In the AM we will travel to Milan Ohio where we will spend the weekend. The most eventful part of this trip was the toll road booths. They are NOT set up well at all. The signs said large vehicles to right lanes.... turns out the right lane is for IZOOM pass only so we quickly (as quickly as one can in a 65 foot rig) moved over to a lane that was cash/credit. We awakened to an absolutely gloriously “sunshiney”, not-a-cloud-in-sight morning and finally no rain even in the forecast! Hate to even jinx it by commenting the forecast is showing nothing but wonderful weather for the next ten days, but there, I’ve gone and done it anyway, haha! In fact, heard some records were set on Lake Michigan last night with waves up to 23’ due to the storms! Imagine! Couple miles outside Gary, Indiana. Less then 40 from chicago. Going to bed now. 5:40 eastern but i'm in central now so... i drove so fast i went back in time. Could have peeled off a few more miles if it wasn't for the fog and deer. so better to rest then drive slow. back on road at 10:00.Jump to full entry

we arrived at indiana dunes s.p. round 6p.m. ish and set up camp. made our first fire!! and hot meal!! fire was easier than we thought. parmesan couscous, spinach and tomato soup. alcohol was strictly prohibited! but well you all know that wasn't gonna fly w/us. in bed by 11 and up by 6 to pack up, shower and check out lake michigan (which looks like a huge fresh water ocean. its amazing. sooo... on the road again we opted not to go to chicago and instead drive and drive and driiiivvvveeee............Jump to full entry
