We arrived in French Lick, Indiana and had lunch at Mickie's Deli before we checked in at the French Lick Hotel. We come here pretty often but today was the most crowded we have ever seen it because it is the first night the Polar Express runs this year and also the night of the Christmas Tree lighting. After we watched Santa's arrival and the Christmas Tree lighting we went to the French Lick Winery for dinner, not knowing we were missing a great-sounding fireworks display! Today’s adventure took us on a tour of southern Indiana. We headed down the road from Santa Claus to The Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. I’m learning more and more about Abraham Lincoln on this trip as we seem to be retracing the footsteps of the Lincoln family from Kentucky to southern Indiana. Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky and spent the first 7 years of his life there. Jul 1, 2007 - For all of those basketball fans ....

This is the way to see the US. You never realize how un-flat the Midwest is until you travel it in a VW van with a 1600 cc engine! There was corn, and yes, it was knee-high by the 4th of July. But there were also rolling hills, beautiful trees and more horses seen there then in Kentucky. We went through the Hoosier State Forest.
