Aug 5, 2013 - Fleetwood

We made it through Chicago and into Decatur in one day. The EZ Pass was the only way we did it, saved at least 45 minutes by not needing to stop a toll booths. It also helped that the major back up on the interstate in Chicago was on the opposite side. There is a 7 flags amusement park and cars were stopped for 2 exits on the interstate waiting to get into it. Fleetwood was busy and were unable to take us a day early, so we started up at 6 AM on Tuesday. We have a new advisor - Neil and a new tech - Annie. Both very good. Annie started out...

Aug 1, 2013 - Fleetwood Factory Tour

Wednesday, July 31st We took the Fleetwood Motorhome Factory Tour. Since there was only one other couple on the tour, and we both had diesel motorhomes, the tour concentrated on diesel motorhomes and we were able to get close to the production line. Fleetwood builds to order and a many of the orders were for 43-45 ft high-end motorhomes. During the tour we walked through one of the high-end motorhomes and a Discovery. Sorry, no pictures, cameras aren’t allowed in the factory. Thursday, Aug 1st Fleetwood completed all the repairs today on...

Jul 30, 2013 - RV/MH Hall of Fame, Elkhart, Indiana

Tuesday, July 30th Fleetwood Service took the motorhome at 6:10am this morning. While they worked on our motorhome… We boarded the Golden Girls (Sierra and Tipper) today so we could do some site seeing. We headed to the town of Shipshewana, where there’s a large flea market ever Tuesday and Wednesday. Of course we bought home a few things. Then we were off to Elkhart, Indiana where we toured the RV/MH Hall of Fame that had trailers dating back to the early 1900’s. We spent well over an hour walking around and checking out the early...

Jul 29, 2013 - At Fleetwood's Service Center

Sunday, July 28th Yesterday we had an un-eventful the trip from Westfield, NY to Decatur, In. We parked the motorhome at Fleetwood’s Service Center, where we’ll stay until the repairs are completed. Fleetwood provides 50 amp electric hookups, and has a dump station and water available. Monday, July 29th Fleetwood Service starts their day at 6am, so we were up before 5am and had the motorhome ready for them to take at 6. I ‘checked in’ the motorhome at 6am and they took the motorhome at 6:10am. The first thing they did was tackle the loud...

Jul 5, 2013 - The end of Dacatur/Fleetwood

7-3-13, Wednesday We got up early and headed for Decatur, where we arrived at the Fleetwood Motor Home Factory for a tour at 9:00am. As it turns out, we were the only 4 people on the tour. The sales coordinator, Tom Lieghty, gave us a tour that lasted about 3 hours. We covered all of the stages from the Purchased chassis for diesels and gas rigs to all of the fiberglass and cabinet assembly. The plant has 3 main production lines, each used based on the size of the rig. They have over 1,300 employees at the manufacturing plant. The process...

We have spent the past week at the Fleetwood service center, having maintenance on the Eagle. We have been ready each morning at 6 am to be taken to the shop. Yes, Ray was up at 5:45 each day. Ray was able to observe the techs and has learned more about the systems on the Eagle. Obie and Reggie have seen men come in and out. Our main tech was Ernie, he has 2 cats and was very nice to ours. It did not rain at all and has been 60 degrees in the mornings. The Salvation Army store is about a half mile away, and I checked out the half price...

Sep 13, 2010 - Decatur, Indiana

We arrived in Decatur, Indiana September 13th. We came to visit the American Coach Service and to have a few items fixed on the motorhome before we take off to the west coast. They also had our window ready. We have been traveling for months with that spider web window, it will be nice to be able to see out of it again. They do excellent work and treat you like kings when you visit. They told us to find any parking space out of the 60 available and hook up to 50 amps electric all for free. They also had water and a dump station. It's not...

Jul 20, 2009 - Fleetwood Plant

I drove 450 miles on July 19th, which is a record or close to it for me! There was a lot of construction going on in Illinois and I was glad to get off the freeways and onto US 24. But that meant that I needed to go through small towns, slowing to 25 mph, but going 55 mph between them - about 7 miles or so. It was a long day. One of the holes in the road that I couldn't go around because of oncoming traffic made the brakes come on in the car! jeez - that wears down the brakes very fast! It corrected itself by the time I came to a near stop,...
