Jul 12, 2018 - Detour

I finished up work yesterday and we left Ohio this morning. We stayed off of the interstates in favor of US 36. We've traveled part of this highway on past trips. It's a two lane highway through the cornfields and soy bean fields of western Ohio and Indiana. The only problem with the route this time was that it's construction season. We ran into 3 detours that added over an hour to the trip. We arrived at the Crawfordsville KOA in Indiana early this evening for an overnight stop. We be heading north in the morning into Illinois. Stay tuned.

Sep 16, 2014 - Crawfordsville, IN - Sugar Creek Campground

It was a 189 mile trip from Utica, IL to Crawfordsville, IN, almost all of it on Interstates 39 and 74. The traffic was heavy for some reason but we still made the trip in less than four hours. The scenery was the same as it has been the last few trips, nothing but corn and soy bean fields, so not many pictures. We did see three more large wind farms but they were too far to get a picture. We were a little surprised to see that many wind farms in this area of the country. We are staying at the Sugar Creek Campground which is a small park...

Jun 23, 2013 - Leaving Indiana!

As we left Pike Lake Campground, we learned two very important lessons that we want to pass along. If you have any outdoor storage compartments with doors that do not clip open, there is probably a reason for that. If you prop it open, look for anything that might not be able to operate properly with it propped open. Also, look at slide outs inside and out for anything that might be in the way of the slide opening or retracting. As a result of our unawareness of these two rules, we had to empty a storage compartment and bungee it shut. And...

Jun 18, 2013 - Success with the "brake buddy"!

We successfully used the brake buddy on the 45 minute trip between Crawfordsville KOA and Prophetstown State Park near West Lafayette! During our 4 night stay at Prophetstown State Park we went up north to Schererville for a retirement dinner for a friend Brad used to teach & coach with and his wife, we went out to dinner with our daughter's in-laws, grandsons, son-in-law, and grandpa-in-law, and we entertained some good friends from Attica at our campsite. All this made me realize that our social life is going to change a lot when we are...

Jun 12, 2013 - Beginning the full-timing life!

The last few days have gone according to plan and we have completely moved into our RV! We checked into site 13 (for luck!) at the Crawfordsville KOA on Monday and have enjoyed getting all the last minute things packed into the RV. We've moved things around in some storage spaces and feel like we have things pretty well organized. Since the KOA is only about 5 miles from our apartment, we didn't use the brake buddy. Monday was our 41st Anniversary - the most perfect day to begin this new adventure! That evening we went to a National...

Jun 5, 2013 - The Countdown!

Well, due to weather & some more trouble with the "brake buddy", as the technician at the Ford dealer calls it, we cancelled our Raccoon Lake trip. We returned to the dealer and had a few things clarified and some more wiring done on the car & electrical cord between the RV and the car, so we HOPE we have this resolved now. Our first instructions were to jam the driver's car seat up as far as possible against the brake buddy, but apparently that was applying the brakes. Now we know to check the brake lights to make sure that hasn't happened...

May 15, 2013 - 3 more trips - Turkey Run State Park, Terre Haute KOA, & Dunes State Park

We have made it through the 2nd wettest spring in Indiana history! We made week-end trips to Turkey Run State Park and Terre Haute KOA. We purchased a membership in KOA and we will use the Crawfordsville KOA during the few days we actually move out of our apartment. We noticed there were several ladies camping alone or in pairs at the KOA and guessed that they might feel safer in a more organized place. Then we went to Dunes State Park for 3 nights where we camped many, many times years ago with our daughters. It's many improvements make it...

Apr 9, 2013 - 3rd Trip - Back to Prophetstown

We have made a lot of progress since our 2nd trip! Our South Dakota license plates came in the mail, our Blue Ox towbar has been installed, we have a 3rd set of keys in case we get locked out again, and we have had Direct TV installed! We also bought a wireless printer that will fit into one of our overhead cabinets, a little lockbox for our important papers, and a plastic filebox for our files. At home we have been sorting belongings for storage, donation or auction & throwing out stuff. Our next task is to get WiFi and a tablet! Our 3rd...

Mar 17, 2013 - 2nd trip - Raccoon Lake SRA

Our second trip to Raccoon Lake State Recreation Area was another learning experience! We had not called ahead and arrived to find out that the water stations were closed and there was no place to fill our fresh water tank! We ended up stopping by the Park Office and they let us fill our tank from the spigot outside the office. Then we were off to choose one of the 4 campsites with 50 amp service. Our daughter, son-in-law, 4 year old grandson, and 3 month old twin granddaughters were joining us the next day in their new travel trailer so we...
