Sep 12, 2017 - Day 14

A laid back day. My cousin and her husband had to work and the remnants of Hurricane Irma spit at us all day. So we hunkered down for the most part. It cleared up during the afternoon that we hiked Trail #5 for about an hour. Then we met my cousin and her husband for cocktails and dinner at the Captain's Quarters right on the river. Some spectacular homes and property along the way. Great dinner and a fun time by all.

Sep 11, 2017 - Day 13

Another really fun day with my cousin and her husband. They picked us up at the park and we drove to the small town of Madison IN. Very historic town on the Ohio River. After lunch, we walked around and ended up touring a mansion built around 1818 by a lawyer named Sullivan, one of the pioneers of the state of Indiana. Beautiful architecture and construction. Sullivan fathered 12 children and still had time for politics and law. His wife's portrait was pretty dour, understandable I'm sure after 12 kids. Had a couple of beers at local pub...

Sep 10, 2017 - Day 12

Terrific day visiting with my cousin and her family. Brunch at their place followed by an afternoon tour of a bourbon distillery. Fascinating engineering. Had no idea how complex the bourbon brewing process was. Then dinner back at their place with their 2 daughters and husbands. Morgan and her husband Christian left Tampa and drove to Louisville. They are planning to head back Tuesday or Wednesday. Jessica and her husband John have a delightful 18 month old boy Jack. LJ took a real liking to him. One curiosity - there is an old abandoned...

Sep 9, 2017 - Day 11 - Charlestown IN State Park

Uneventful travel day, except once again the winds are right on our nose as we head towards Louisville. Amazing that the winds were out of the northwest going towards Chicago then shift to southeast today. Best move was to buy an I-pass so we could bypass toll booths. Probably saved us a half hour getting through Chicago. Interstate around Chicago not quite as bad as St. Louis and Oklahoma City, but close. I-65 in Indiana pretty rugged in spots, but a lot of construction so they're trying to make it better. One thing I noticed is that both...

Jun 11, 2017 - Southern Indiana

Today we explored a little of southern Indiana. We stopped in Salem and strolled through the historic part of town .. being Sunday everything was closed which was a little disappointing as it appeared to have a few interesting shops I would have loved to peruse. The courthouse was one building that really impressed us. It has a monument with a listing of all wars since the American Revolution and pillars dedicated to all who lost their lives in each of the wars up to current time ... each and every name. We continued on and wound up in...

Mar 31, 2012 - On our way to New Mexico, stopping off in Joplin

We sure hated to leave the Farmer family but it's time for to head west. We are looking forward to seeing Zack and Randee and some of the people we didn't get to see the last time we were in the Joplin area. We left about noon on Thursday and filled up the pick up. $81 for 18 gallons of fuel! That got us to the Flying J in Belleville,IL and we spent the night there. The next day we filled up again and spent $85 there which took us in to Joplin with a 16th of a tank. :) We stopped to get something to eat in Springfield, Mo and discovered...

Mar 15, 2012 - Time to get ready to roll...

It looks like we'll be leaving southern Indiana in around 10 days. It's easy to get comfortable here, we're among friends/family and we enjoy the fellowship we find here. Jim has done about all he needs to do in the bathroom. They will be adding some finishing touches to it but all in all, it is such an improvement over what was there before! Wanda has her big, walk in shower and a newer, higher, toilet and a pedestal sink will soon follow. Everything is clean and white and fresh and solidly built. I'm proud of Jim! He has done some nice...

Feb 29, 2012 - Spring is finally here!

I can't believe that March will be here tomorrow! The robins are everywhere and the trees are budding out. There is a lovely row of bright yellow daffodils out in the back yard. Last night we were sitting outside and we were surprised to see the mosquitoes are out! After we left Jim's mom's we headed down to Charlestown to see Danny and Wanda Farmer and all of their family. We were warmly welcomed, as always and we got set up in the driveway and settled in for a nice visit. That was to become a nice, looooong visit! The bathroom floor in...

May 5, 2011 - God is so Good!

We are having another sunny day! Thank you Lord! We are at Danny & Wanda Farmer's house and we are having such a good time. We always feel so at home here! We've been able to get acquainted with Kanetha's new husband, Chris and we've seen Jarred and also Danny's brother, Dennis. Those of you who know this family, know what a treat it is to spend time with them. It is such a loving family! Yesterday morning, Jim came walking in to the kitchen and Wanda and I were sitting at the table all teary eyed and sappy. We'd been sharing stories and...

Aug 10, 2009 - Indiana

We picked this State Park in Indiana because we thought it would be peaceful and quiet. Ane we were right, there were only about 5 other people in here. With the whole park to pick from, we thought we had a good spot, but we ended up getting a little scratch on the side of the Montana from some tree limbs :( But it is a nice peaceful spot with nothing around but a few turkeys and raccoons.
