Dec 6, 2016 - Painting our Truck Camper

Ending the Battles, and Winning the War on Camper Oxidation Almost two years ago, we published an entry on maintaining the exterior on our truck camper, (March 2014; “Work and Play in Oldtown”). Since then, maintaining that shine hasn’t gotten any easier… In fact, it’s become futile. Adding a trailer to the weekend washing schedule didn’t help matters. I’ve become increasingly frustrated by the fact that our five-year-old truck still looks new, but our camper of the same age looks three times as old, despite getting the same attention....

Jun 14, 2015 - Bremen or Bust

We got going super early which was a good thing. It was already hot and humid and when we tried to start the generator to run the air conditioning, it wouldn't start. We had talked about replacing our house batteries and now it looks like that's added to the agenda with the hot water heater. Joe jumped the batteries and started the generator and we hit the road. Traffic around Indianapolis was pretty heavy but the road construction was absolutely ghastly. The roads were so rough we thought the dishes might bounce out of the cabinets. We...

Summer 2015 & Beyond

Aug 12, 2013 - Bremen for Paint

We met with the gang at the paint shop today and they think they'll have us out in a couple of days; that's good news. We booked in at Pla-Mor and went for dinner. We ran into Cal & Patti, Alfa owners, who also had their rig painted and looks gorgeous. Over the next few days, Hannah is planning a hair-cut, a run to Mishawaka for Barnes & Noble and some other errands. Hopefully, we're on our way to Oklahoma City by late week.

Jul 9, 2012 - Bremen, IN

Hi All, Staying here a couple of day, tomorrow we are going to tour the Newmar Coach Manufacturing Plant. The weather is still nice, a little humid but tolerable. We did the tour and it was pretty cool, all the coaches they build are already sold to dealers or customers. Custom build only and we did not see one that we liked better than ours. All is good and having a grand time. Until later, Jim and Kathy

Jul 6, 2012 - Bremen, IN

The morning of July 6th we left Grand Rapids and drove 137 miles to Pla-Mor Campground in Bremen, Indiana. We left at 8:30am and it was already in the high 80s and forecast to 105. We turned on our generator and then both roof air conditions along with the dash air. This made sure we would be comfortable on our drive. We went to Bremen because we have an appointment on July 16th at Precision Painting so they can take care of some minor paint repair issues the started showing up last fall. We pulled into Pla-Mor Campground just after lunch....

Jun 23, 2011 - SKP Rally, Bremen, Indiana

SKP Rally in Bremen, Indiana We enjoyed seeing our SKP friends from Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Pennesylvania. Lots of Rally traditions, like tours, meals, games, meals, campfire, meals, swapping stories, and meals. We toured the Newmar factory and a new RV company called Nexus. Jim completed two more RV improvement projects: 1) installed surge protection on the main power supply, 2) installed the TV antenna add-on to improve TV reception in fringe areas. We seem to always be in fringe areas.

May 11, 2011 - Bremen, IN

We love this area! Green farmland, friendly people. Ahhhhh! We got settled in to our site on "Executive Row" along with all the other officers of our Bounder-Roo FMCA Chapter. Our first rally was a resounding success; we had 29 coaches attend. Good food, good fun, lots of business taken care of. The members also had plenty of time to get out and about in the area; there is so much to do here. Alas, the Board members were busy taking care of business, so we didn't get to explore much. Good thing we were here two years ago and played...

Jul 21, 2009 - Bremen, IN

We spent 12 days at Pla-Mor RV Park, and had a great time. We split our time between working and playing and that was wonderful. We ended up completely repacking all our outside storage bays. When we moved over from the Montana, we tried to put things where we wanted them, but that didn’t always work. Same as in the kitchen area. So we started with one bay and packed it the way we wanted it, putting aside things we found we wanted in other areas. By the time we were finished, about 6 hours later, we were done and pretty darn happy with...

Our Great Adventure

Jul 16, 2009 - A busy day in Nappanee

Today was a busy day! Our group was invited by Gulf Stream, the manufacturer of our motor homes to come to the company's sports and meeting pavilion for the day. We arrived around 9am and were greeted by some friendly faces that we've met over the years. Dave Middleton spoke to us about the RV industry in general and how Gulf Stream has made important strategic decisions to help them stay in business while so many other motor home manufacturers are failing. Gulf Stream is family owned and all the manufacturing facilities are completely paid...

Jul 14, 2009 - Bremen, IN - Gulf Stream Pre-Rally

We drove about 3 hours north of Bloomington to Bremen to meet up with some friends for our motor home manufacturer’s pre-rally. This just means that we get together and have a fun time before going on to the bigger rally in Ohio. We frequently meet in this area of Indiana because this is where the manufacturer of our motor home’s factory is and it’s also the center of the RV industry. Unfortunately, with the economy being so bad, many of the factories and supporting businesses are now out of business. Elkhart, IN which has been known as the...

Aug 17, 2008 - a Sunday drive

We got leisurely a start. There was more Olympic coverage to watch - Yay Michael! The house needed to be cleaned - this will be greatly appreciated when we return home. And most importantly the last minute items needed to be moved to the motor home. What have we forgotten? So it was after lunch when we hit the road. Shortly after we got on I-80 the traffic came to a stop. Ken turned on the new CB he had just installed and we learned that a vehicle was on fire ahead. We saw the heavy black smoke of its burning tires long before we crept up...
