Oct 4, 2015 - Mt Rushmore

Well, we made it to Mt Rushmore but not after going through some of the most impressive territory to date. I really, REALLY liked the Wapiti and Cody areas of Wyoming. Really great area and great scenery. I am pretty sure I saw John Wayne, or Buffalo Bill, or Clint Eastwood there somewhere. But, you saw those pictures yesterday. On the way to Mt Rushmore we saw Crazy Horse and had planned to return but did not due to weather. We did see it from afar. Also stopped at Jewel Cave which they believe is the largest cave structure. It goes from...

Jul 19, 2015 - July 19, 2015 - Third Stop - Angola ,IN

Today was a relatively short day, 180 miles. We went through a heavy rainstorm, but RainX makes it like there is no rain on the windshield. So far I am getting over 13mpg and that makes me happy I got this new truck. The RV Park here is huge, but only the long term sites are full. I took a picture of the back of the trailer for interest purposes only. Tomorrow is a 200 mile day to Harrison, MI. We will be off the interstate onto US 127 and hope is it a better road than parts of the interstate system. I hate driving 50 mph and below.

Sep 21, 2013 - Pokagon State Park

This morning we left Barrington Hills, Illinois for our next stretch of highway eastbound. We drove out and around the Chicago area to try to avoid traffic and Illinois' Toll Roads. We were able to do it, but it took an awfully long time to get out of town. Maybe I'll re-think doing that for next time. This evening we ended up at Pokagon State Park in Angola, Indiana. There are lots of camping spaces here and it was very busy this weekend. Lots of kids playing (read "noise") in the electric hook-up section of the park. We drove across the...

Aug 25, 2013 - My Nest

I slept fairly well last night. However I could use a little more padding between me and the platform. You'd think I'd have padding on my own without needed egg crates! LOL. I forgot to take any pictures of my little nest, but will take some as soon as I can. It really is the perfect set up. A shout out to Kevin who helped me build it. Who am I kidding, who built it by himself. I supervised. :) So while I was getting my oil changed and tires rotated this morning, I picked up some groceries. Then had a yummy breakfast at Bob Evans. Finally...

Jul 7, 2012 - Angola, IN

Hi All, Here we landed in a place called Angola in IN , staying here for two nights. Hot air ballons fest going on here. The weather is not cooperating so the balloons were not able to fly, too bad we did not get to see that. I have a few pictures I might add later, having a good time. Until later, Jim and Kathy

Aug 4, 2011 - 4 August - Pokagon State Park

Whoever thought that Angola is a country in south-central Africa bordered by Namibia on the south is mistaken. It is actually in Indiana where Pokagon State Park is located. The American's haven't been very original naming parts of their country !! We arrived quite late and left the next morning. We were very lazy here and didn't even get our to explore the area!! So I have nothing else to say about the park so here are a few facts instead: Pokagon State Park is located near Angola, just off I-69. The park was originally called Lake James...

The Great Escape

Aug 1, 2010 - Day 49

Today Jean’s family came to visit and we had a picnic and a good time. Jean hasn’t seen her family in two years so it was nice to spend the day together. It was nice early today, but it got real muggy again this afternoon. It doesn’t look like we’ll get cooled off any time soon

Jul 31, 2010 - Days 47 and 48

To date we’ve traveled 4,374 miles in the motor home and almost 1,000 miles in the car. Yesterday and today we traveled from Mackinaw City, MI to Angola, IN. After leaving Mackinaw City we stopped at the Cross in the Woods in Indian River, MI. What a beautiful worship space - a lovely church and a beautiful outdoor setting for Mass with a large crucifix overlooking the entire area. Other than that we just drove to get to Angola. Last night we had our 2nd worst campsite of the trip, but all things considered we’ve done pretty good in our...

Oct 13, 2009 - Dinner with Jeff & Melissa in Angola, IN

We arrived at Jeff and Melissa's in the late afternoon. They had just gotten home from a weeks vacation in Alabama with the girls and the Smiths. Even though the vacant lot next door was sold, we were still allowed to park there. Jeff provided us with electricty and we were home for the night. Grandma Becky came over to bring Madison home and babysit for Reagan and Karsen so we could go out to dinner. Jeff and Mellissa took us out for Mexican and the meal was great. Vince was staying with the Rhodes so he came with us and Mark, who works...

Apr 20, 2009 - Circle B Campground, Angola, Indiana.

Well the truck made it into the garage first thing this morning. I think they were waiting for me because only one car in the front lot and the guys were sitting in the waiting room sucking on this mornings coffee. I entered and all three mechanics disappeared into the garage. I yelled "Guy's you don't have to take off because of me!!" The lovely Lady behind the counter said "It's 8 am and time to work." I told her I had a fan belt to replace and before I had finished browsing through a small Dive Magazine they were closing the hood on the...

Oct 19, 2007 - On the move again.

Yes, we are on the move again and will be in a different place every day for the next two weeks until we get to Arizona. We woke up to a balmy 19C (66.2F) this morning. After a week of daily highs of 10C (50F) in Ottawa, it seemed like summer was back. We arrived at the border crossing in Sarnia around 8:45 a.m. This is the Blue Water Bridge and it spans between Sarnia, Ontario and Port Huron, Michigan. I wish I had thought to take a picture. You get a really nice view of Lake Huron and the water was a beautiful green colour....
