Aug 13, 2017 - Travel to Quad Cities

August 13 - Travel to Quad Cities We have an appointment on August 14 with the company (HWH) who installed our stabilizer/leveling hydraulic jacks on our RV. The system is functioning well but since we are going to be traveling bye, we will stop for a courtesy system check. Depending on the time it takes to inspect the system, we may be able to travel west toward Nebraska after the checkup. To see our trip itinerary, click on the Itinerary box on the right side of the Homepage. Congress has until mid-October to raise the statutory...

Oct 5, 2014 - LaCrosse to Rock Island

These are just some hip shots from the drive yesterday.. It was too cloudy to do much but some of them were neat places. Today we drove from Rock Island to Granite City, IL which was pretty much a nondescript drive! Luckily because I didn't have my camera with anyway.. ha I can't possibly be getting older but Something is making it harder to drive a few hundred miles...stop one night... and drive a few hundred more! *)* Hey... I used to drive myself from Cartersville, GA to Sioux Falls, SD in one go... and from Cartersville, GA to New...

Jun 13, 2012 - Day 6..."No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space"...Capt. Kirk

Day 6...leaving Mini soda and entering Iowa and eventually ...Illinois... What a day!!! extremely LONG day...but can happily say we are safe and sound in Illinois.. The day started off wet...wasn't suppose to rain that we were aware of..but you could hear the rain pattering on top of the RV. No one seemed particularly eager to get up and moving..in fact it was the first day of the trip that Nana didn't wake up at 5am. Well..actually if we were back in Washington it would be her normal time so....we got a late start..oh well..heck we are on...

Jun 21, 2011 - Rock Island Arsenal

From Geneseo Campground – Geneseo, IL Our travels today took us to Rock Island Arsenal which is an active US Army facility located on a 946 acre island in the Mississippi River. Today it is our nation’s largest government owned and operated arsenal. The importance of this island was identified as early as 1809 when it was set aside as a federal military reservation by an Act of Congress. In 1816 Fort Armstrong was built as part of an Upper Mississippi Valley fort system and its most important role in keeping peace was when it served as a...

Home Sweet RV - 2011

Sep 1, 2010 - RocK Island, IL

Traveled through the great state of Illinois today and found a few cornfields, see picture. Got in to Rock Island, just on the other side of the Mississippi from Davenport, Iowa, at a decent hour and had time to decide on where we were going to have our gourmet supper. A local casino, quarter mile away, had a Wednesday night special steak and lobster buffet going. Where did we wind up???see picture. Yep, that's a brand new Hy Vee grocery store, again a quarter mile away. Had a buffet Chinese bar at the store......real good, but definitely...

May 14, 2010 - To Rock Island, IL

What a difference a day makes. The sun is shining and the wind has died down. We make one try at pulling out of our campsite. It is still wet. Tom is ready and pulls us out with no trouble. I guess we will have to be careful the next few days. Tom and Anna are going ahead of us. Anna has a friend in Minneapolis. Her friend works so they want to visit over the weekend. John and I will drive the river road and eventually catch up. We drive into Carthage and find the “Wright Place” for breakfast. The locals are all talking about how much rain...

Oct 12, 2009 - Rock Island, Illinois

October 12 – Monday It was a cool 6 degrees this morning as we left Indianapolis and headed west crossing into Illinois and into a new time zone, so we are now in Central Time Zone. The cloudy, cool day made for a good travel day driving 505 kilometers. The highway was good with no construction hold ups and way fewer big trucks to deal with. Again we passed through some beautiful farmland with acre after acre of corn and soya. Most crops have not been harvested yet but we did see a few combines working this afternoon. The wet weather they...

Aug 21, 2008 - Day 76 - Gretna, NE to Rock Island, IL

Did a somewhat early rising this morning for our 328 mile drive. Wanted a short drive into Peoria tomorrow to maximize our one day there. Got packed up, had breakfast and was on the road by 8:30ish. It was a rainy day and the traffic on I-80 was terrible with a ton of trucks on the road. The Rock Island KOA is an okay campground with nice facilities. Good size sites and wooded. Arrived in Rock Island around 3:30pm and got set up. I wanted to veg out; but Barb wanted to walk around and exercise her back, so we headed out to find a mall or a...

Jul 24, 2008 - Rock Island, IL

We travelled from La Crosse, WI to Rock Island, IL. We went on the river scenic route, Hwy 35. Beautiful country. It took longer than we expected, but we got behind a group of classic old cars and they were going very SLOWWWW. We arrived early afternoon, and stayed at the Rock Island/Quad Cities KOA. It's an OK park, located next to several small lakes. However, a lot of the spots on the lake front are seasonal RV's (permanent, used for weekends and vacations). Unlike some parks we have been to, these are not as well kept up. The weather...

Apr 27, 2008 - Indiana motorhome haven

Hi Everyone, We drove straight through Ohio(not much too see anyway) because Rich was axious to get to the RV/Motorhome Hall Of Fame in Elkhart, IN. We finally arrived and we were not disappointed. It was awesome (yuk, yuk)! Elkhart was a beautiful city so we decided to stay for the week. We found the local farmers' market and Rich found the local Amish donut shoppe. 60% of all Rvs are made in Elkhart. We had fun browsing at all kinds of rvs however we are not yet ready to upgrade. We did some normal stuff like eating out and going to...
