Oct 31, 2014 - Happy Halloween

It seems the changing of time zones messed us up more than anything. We woke up, had a quick breakfast and got started on trying to get our poor house ready for the road. But it never is as easy as the book says. We were hoping to just hand crank our slide outs in to take in, but that wasn't working, apparently the back pressure was stopping the process. So Michelle got on the phone and started calling and calling... we have roadside assistance, and we have full vehicle warranty, but not the right one for where we were. So now that we have...

Winter West

Oct 25, 2014 - Pontiac, Illinois

We had a LONG travel day today. We got about 50 miles down the road and heard a loud noise. It sounded like a wheel bearing or something wrong with a tire. We pulled over at a truck stop and had them check the tires, they could not find anything wrong. After several calls to Good Sam for service advice and three companies not knowing what the problem was, we finally found a man who knew. The air bag level rod had moved out of place and needed to be put back in the proper pocket. He fixed it in two minutes once we found the right guy....

May 22, 2014 - Pontiac

We made our return trip to Pontiac today. Although it was cloudy all day, it was much cooler than yesterday with the temperatures in the comfortable mid-70’s. It was perfect for walking around the historic downtown of Pontiac. Most people know Pontiac as the name of a car brand that GM jettisoned in 2010. Pontiac is really a city on Route 66 in Livingston County, IL with a population of over 11,000 and is the county seat. It was named after the Chief of the Ottawa tribe, Pontiac, who lead them in an uprising against the British between 1763...

Jul 23, 2012 - Illinois Route 66

We crossed into Illinois early this morning and drove over to Pontiac where we start our journey down Old Route 66 to St. Louis. Our first stop was the Route 66 Museum in Pontiac which memorializes the route through Illinois. It’s housed in the old fire station in Pontiac and is laid out as the route progresses from Chicago to St. Louis. Many of the displays recognize the people who helped make the route an experience as well as a journey – the restaurants along the way, the gas stations, advertising signs and small towns where people...

Barb's Retirement

Sep 9, 2011 - Pontiac, Il

Traveled thru Ohio, Indiana and Chicago today. Chicago traffic unreal. We went thru downtown and found the start of Rt. 66 even though no signs exist. Traveled the route and found first sign on Ogden Ave. After that, signs marked our way. Mostly cloudy, but sun did come out at times. We are between Joliet and Bloomington, IL, along Interstate 55. Lots to see, but traffic has made it impossible to get pictures. It has slowed down now that we are out of Chicago, so we'll take lots more pictures. Plan to go to Rt. 66 Hall of Fame museum, plus...

web: www.il66redcarpetcorridor.org/pontiac.html "George Fell founded Pontiac in 1837 and named it in honor of Chief Pontiac of the Ottawa Indians who; over sixty years earlier gave so much grief to white settlers invading the Ottawa lands. Though he waged war on the settlers, he was admired as a great leader by both whites and Native Americans alike. He was particularly noted for his foresight in uniting different tribes to block the white invasion. Tecumseh would attempt to do the same thing a few years later and probably was influenced by...

Apr 19, 2008 - Moraine View State Park Le Roy Illinois

This is the same state park we stopped at on the beginning of our winter trip. We had planned to visit with Trevor and our grand daughter but Trevor was sick and we didn't want to expose ourselves to that before we got home. We will have to plan another trip to visit.
