Apr 17, 2016 - Good Decision

Wichita was getting mega rain today so my decision to move northeast turned out to be a very wise one. Will reach Chicago tomorrow early afternoon. Colin has Mondays off so that will be a bonus. Weather forecast for Chicago is nice for tomorrow but rain for the rest of the week. Yikes!

Jun 22, 2012 - Day 1- Morton, IL to Tulsa, OK

Anxious to get on the road, we went to get Lilli from her last day of dance camp pulling the camper, fully loaded, and ready for action. As usual, Clint decided he was starving about 20-minutes into the trip, so he started on his pre-packed bag of food…..which was quickly followed by Elli 20-minutes later……and then me. Because the truck doesn’t have three rows of seating, we were a little packed in and had to come up with an alternative for snacks. When it is drink time, we open the back window and one of the kids pokes their head out the...

Jun 28, 2011 - Day 1

The trip started a half hour late……still some concerns about the critters that have begun sharing our house with us……baby raccoons are still in the porch ceiling, and with no mom (relocated a few days earlier), there is the concern that they may die up there. And the mother skunk I shot in the morning…..may not have died as something was still under the porch growling. After convincing my wife it would be okay, and that there was no short solution to either problem, we left. The trip through Illinois and Missouri was pretty uneventful. A...

Jul 3, 2010 - Getting Ready...

Hello to anyone and everyone reading this! I thought this would be a good way of sharing my trip with everyone. I'll probably just post photos on Facebook, but I'll try to link to them here so that anyone can see them. This is going to be the written description of my day to day life. I have a feeling this trip is going to be really exciting, but some days are probably going to be pretty normal. It is a school trip, after all. I want to record that all here. Right now I'm just finishing packing... okay, I've been packing a little bit, but...

Jul 5, 2009 - Our first day on the road.

Today we left the comfort of our home and our cat for Springfield, Missouri today. We left at about 9:45 A.M. We traveled about 150 miles till we stopped for lunch at Apple bees. Once we were back in the car we traveled 200 miles till we reached our hotel for the night, Baymont Inn. We avoided traffic from an accident on the highway. A car drove 50 feet into a tree, the car flipped and there dog, a chihuahua (i don't know if I spelt that right), fell out of their car and fled into the woods. We were about a mile back stuck in traffic when...

Jul 22, 2008 - Day 28 - Home again, Home again, Jiggety Jig

Morton, IL We woke up at 8:10 to the sound of my watch alarm. I was the first to stir at 8:25. Went down for breakfast and jumped in the pool shortly after 9. Erika Sue used the puppy dog eyes with the folks at the front desk to get the slide turned on. We all enjoyed a morning swim and multiple slides before checking out and heading for KC to see my nephew Jim. Jim runs multiple stores for Champs/Footlocker (and ironically found out he is moving back to Denver while eating lunch with us) and we met him at his Overland Park mall. The mall...

Jun 25, 2008 - Day 1 - The Adventure Begins

Round 2 at this posting as the first one crashed on me. We departed Morton at 5:20 in a violent thunderstorm (actually we were in our Sienna van but it was storming outside). Erika and the girls slept as I waged an epic (and obliviously unappreciated) battle with the elements. The parts of Iowa which are not under water are under construction. I did the Lane change hokey pokey for the better part of the morning and early afternoon. You close the right lane here, you close the left lane there,.... For the distance runners in the crew, It was...

Aug 26, 2007 - Church in the Corn Field - Utica, IL

(Ron Writing) This morning we enjoyed worshiping at the Waltham Presbyterian Church in Utica, IL. The address is Utica but the church is actually out in the country several miles from any town. The church is on one side of the road, the cemetery is across the road to the west, and the parsonage is across the road to the south. Other than that they are surrounded by corn fields. The sanctuary is quite unusual. It has a large picture window across the front behind the pulpit so the worshipers have a beautiful view of the corn field! This...
