Sep 13, 2016 - Sunset Lakes Resort

Sunset Lakes Resort, just outside of the Moline, IL/Davenport, IA area is another week of rest and relaxation. The resort is 12 miles or so from the civilized areas and most of the week we have been sort of been by ourselves, no other campers within 500 feet of us. The week end was crowded with lots of kids and, as we are right at the putt putt course and only a few feet from the pool, we had lots of company. Pool had closed for the year, but had not been drained, so a doggie pool party was scheduled for all day Saturday. Talk about some...

2016 Fall Trip

Jun 19, 2014 - Day 2 - Time with family and friends

Our destination for day 2 was the Quad City KOA in Moline, IL where Phil's sister, Pat Brubaker lives. But there was one special stop along the way, in Kickapoo, IL so I could meet one of my "eagle" facebook friends, Dani Butterfield. It wasn't a long visit, but when you have the chance to get a real life hug from someone you've been chatting with for several years, you just can't pass it up. Dani is a sweetheart and I'm so glad I finally got to meet her! When we got to Moline, we were joined by Phil's sister, Pat, husband Jim; sister...

Jul 14, 2012 - Mississippi River

Our original plan for today was to travel through Iowa, however, when the sun came out, we decided to stay one more night in Illinois and spend the day exploring the Mississippi River. We took a riverboat cruise up to see the first lock, #15, that was built on the Mississippi. There are 29 locks in all on this great river. At this end it is only 20 feet deep and it divides the states of Illinois and Iowa. It was a hot day, but parts of the boat had air-conditioning, so we ducked inside, once and awhile. This is the 12th day since we left...

Rathe Family Travels

Jun 28, 2011 - Moline, Illinois

Yesterday we toured the John Deere Pavillion and did a little exploring in the Moline area. Weather has been perfect. This morning, we took the factory tour of the John Deere Harvester factory. What a great tour. Makes me proud to be a stockholder. We rode bicycles all afternoon on the Riverway. The sign says that there are 75 miles of the Riverway. We did not do it all. We did do a few geocaches along the trail. The photos include one unique cache.

Home Sweet RV - 2011

Jun 15, 2011 - Moline, IL Temp 75

We're in Moline, Illinois for 5 nights - home to a large portion of the world famous Bull clan. We're not in the same campground that we've stayed in the last two times we've been here. That one is having some sort of private rally this week and is closed to non-members. Now that could be a good thing, since both times we stayed there, we've had to evacuate our RV and stay in the concrete and cinder block club house for some period of time due to severe weather. This park is not quite as nice - they did not assign us a site, we had to find...

Jun 20, 2010 - Sunday Moline, IL

Bob got up early and went to the TPC John Deere to play golf but they had some type of event going on and he couldn't play. When he got back (and Barb got up), we went to Walmart to do some shopping. That afternoon we drove to Rich and Diane's house for a fantastic dinner and lots of stimulating conversation. Sound like the next time we visit them, they'll own a house in Mesquite, Nevada and their 5th wheel will be permanently located in Illinois - just the opposite of the current arrangement. Of course, I think this change hinges on...

The Trip of 2010

Jun 19, 2010 - Saturday Moline, IL

What a day! There were Bulls coming out of every nook and cranny. We spent the day at Uncle Joe and Kathy's house. Yesterday was Uncle Joe's birthday and tomorrow is Father's Day, so the Illinois Bulls combine the two events into one BIG day. The kitchen wasn't big enough to hold all the food - which was fantastic, by the way. Joe and Kathy's first great, great granddaughter was there - just 3 weeks old. We got there around 2:00 and left around 8:00 and people were coming and going all day long. There was a poker game going on in the...

The Trip of 2010

Jun 15, 2010 - Tuesday Moline, IL

Sunset Lake Resort We stayed at this same resort 2 years ago. This is a Coast-to-Coast resort, so we only pay $10 a day. When we were here last time, someone came around in the middle of the night and asked everyone to come to the clubhouse due to a tornado warning and some sort of flood warning. It was all very scary - especially since they weren't very good at keeping us informed as to what was going on. Once we got to camp, Barb took Jill (our new GPS - I love her even more than the old Jill) and headed out to find a Walmart Supermart....

We arrived in Hillsdale, Illinois on Friday and met up with our friends, George & Myrna Wolkoff. They are headed east after spending the summer in Montana. We spent a very nice evening catching up and they were off early on Saturday morning. Ken spent Saturday fulfilling one of his goals - playing a PGA course. Needless to say, he is still talking about it!! Sunday found us heading into Moline, Illinois to take in the John Deere sites. Ken had a great time crawling around the newer equipment and we enjoyed the collectors building. From the...
