Jun 27, 2011 - Marion, IL

We are now in Marion, IL, at a campground with lots of trees and one tall one that leans into coaches when they try to pull into spaces. We left Viera on Sat morning about 1130. Linnea was an angel, helping me move orchids and load the coach. She came over on Fri evening to help her old parents! We made Tifton, GA, the first night and then on to Chattanooga, TN, the next. Monday, we left Chattanooga around 0710 to beat the rush hour traffic. We went a few miles and were in the Central Time Zone, so it was only 0630 or so. We stopped for...

We went to the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY. It was like walking into an art museum. Each quilt was so intricate, so perfect; each one's "story" so unique. One took more than 16,000 hours of work. At the Kroger grocery store they had pictures of the flood waters in their parking lot. They had a wall of sandbags to keep the water out of the store. You could only see the top few inches of pipes of the return cart racks in the parking lot.

Aug 29, 2010 - Through the mountains

We left northern Ga. around 8 am and headed toward Illinois. We went through Dalton, Ga. the rug and flooring capital of the United States. There were tons of discount places, but then you had to get it home and get it installed, but you could have fun shopping if you were in the mood for floor covering! We then drove through some very nice mountains on the way to Nashville. Was able to drive through downtown, since it was Sunday. It had a very impressive skyline. We then headed to Paducah, Ky. This is the area called the land between the...

Apr 27, 2010 - April on to 27 in Marion, IN

Moved on to another town called Marion, This one is in Indiana. We stayed at the Marion Campground after a clear day of driving in very heavy wind. For much of the trip we drove directly into the wind which dropped my mileage down to just under 11 MPG. This a small campground and appears to be mostly overnighters getting off the road for the night then back out the next morning.

Jun 23, 2008 - Amber Waves of Grain

OK, we have now arrived in Manitou Springs, CO where we plan to stay at least two nights before heading on to our ultimate Colorado destination in Meeker. Today, we decided to abandon the interstate highway and take an older US Highway on to Manitou Springs. Our drive from Oakley, KS covered 247 miles and with a change to Mountain Standard Time we arrived at noon. We traveled US 40, Colorado Hwy 96 and US 24 through Colorado Springs to our destination. If you like long straight stretches of highway bordered by grain fields, this is the trip...

Jun 21, 2008 - Moving on to Illinois

We get up early and walk the dogs and we're on our way. If it seems like we're rushing, we are a bit. We need to be in Goshen, IN by Monday morning for the Back Home In Indiana RV Rally sponsored by Gulf Stream, the manufacturer of our motor home. So we have 3 days to get there and no time for sightseeing on the way. Today we travel from Arkansas to Missouri and then into Illinois where we spend the night at Marion. We see lots of farm land in all three states and also a VERY swollen Mississippi River from all the recent storms. In parts of...

Jun 10, 2008 - Marion, IL

Left Montgomery Bell state park this morning and headed north. Hopefully it will be a little cooler there. We drove through Clarksville, TN to get on I-24. I bet I stopped for over 100 red lights. Never will do that again. LOL. We have stopped for the night at Marion, IL at Marion Campground and RV Park. This is a new park and is a nice place. Free WIFI and Cable. Tomorrow we should arrive at St. Charles MO, part of St. Louis, for the start of the Newmar Fulltimers Rally. Looking forward to seeing some of our friends there.

Apr 3, 2008 - Tennesee,Kentucky & Illinois in the rain

Rained most of today, Dave did not enjoy the driving but at least it let up a bit so I took over for awhile. Another Walmart stop for tonight, the Walmart store was closed but the Sams club was open and busy, Several rv's are here as they were in Al. for an overnight stop, everyone seems to go shopping and picking up papers and garbage and returning carts to try to leave the area cleaner than it was so we will continue to be welcomed . It is so convenient when we travel all day and just need a place to eat and sleep, sure hope it stays that...
