On the road again heading toward Illinois. We encountered a long line of heavy traffic that took us about 2 hours to get through because of road construction. We just ate apples and creeped along. We stopped at a rest stop near Metropolis, IL and they had this life sized cut out of Superman minus his head. Well, my man of steel had to try it out and I really liked his new look. Sep 25, 2007 - muggy & hot!
Good ol' midwest - always sticky, humid, muggy... On Saturday, we decided to have lunch at a park near Columbia Missouri (home to Missouri State U). We didn't know that there was a football game against Illinois State. Traffic was delightful. Once we got past that, though, we got to Devil's Icebox rec area. It is a huge cave/cavern system which has partially collapsed. You can get a little ways into the system - but very far and it's recommended that you have hardhats (darn! left them in the car!) and lots of flashlights. We went just into...Jump to full entry
Sep 24, 2007 - Fox's Fleas & Giant City
We've spent two nights now in Giant City State Park in Makanda, Southern Illinois. Giant City is just a few miles south of Carbondale where Southern Ilinois University is located. I was going to attend SIU, but I met a girl from Seattle and the rest is history. We spent the day yesterday (Sunday Sept. 23rd) with my dad, Walt, and his wife, Helen, at Fox's Flea Market just south of here on the Illinios side of the Mississippi River.
