Sep 19, 2013 - Exploring Lincoln & Atlanta

We have enjoyed seeing the sights today in Lincoln. We went downtown to the railroad depot to see the spot where Abe Lincoln christened the new town of Lincoln with watermelon juice. Before he was famous Mr. Lincoln practiced law in the local courthouse of Postville, Il. The local officials were able to get the railroad to come by their town so they decided to found a new town around the railroad and commissioned Mr. Lincoln to be their lawyer and design the new town. They asked him if they could name the town after him and he replied, yes,...

Sep 18, 2013 - Finally on the Road

My medicine arrived yesterday so we hit the road today. We are only going as far as Lincoln as we wanted to stay two nights so we could see the sights. We found the campground with no problem but were given only water and electricity. It is a small campground and I guess not many with full hook ups. Since we have been sitting for a week with no sewer hook up we were ready to find one. I guess we will have to make it a couple of more days and then dump at the dump station when we leave. They do have good Wifi though. Larry likes to shower at...

Spring Trips 2013

Jul 30, 2013 - Lincoln, IL

Today was a travel day, so we got on the road relatively early, as I wanted to see a few sights in our next town and we're only staying one night. When we stopped for breakfast, the trucker parked next to us asked where we were from in Texas. When we told him the Austin area, he told me he was headed down there and then on to Laredo and also mentioned that he does the trucking for Michael's, the craft store. He asked if we knew how hot it was "down there" and I told him close to 100 according to my friends. He sure didn't seem happy about...

Jul 5, 2012 - Home

Home! Thank you, Lord, for everything! And thank you to all of you that welcomed us into your homes, lodged us, fed us, visited with us, and just plain took care of us. We appreciate it all. We pulled into our driveway about noon yesterday. The thermometer in the back yard said it was 107, the one in the front said it was 102. Whatever, it was HOT!!! I got the entire car unpacked and nearly everything put away. A couple more loads of laundry and that will be done as well. For me, it was a great trip. For John, some of it was great, some of...

May 11, 2008 - Lincoln's Watermelon Christening

At last, after only 3 hours, the first destination on the trip had been reached. After making an exit onto the historic Route 66, we began our entry into the quiet (and dead looking) town of Lincoln, Illinois. Now for those who have yet to hear of the importance of this little town, it is the only town named "Lincoln" that Abraham Lincoln himself granted his name to. In fact, in order to dedicate the town, he christened it with a watermelon and our first stop was this very place. We debated whether to even make this stop or whether we...

May 3, 2008 - Home Safely

I just wanted to let all of you know we arrived home safely today about 3:30 - a 7 hour drive. Our total travel mileage was 2,182. Today's mileage was 338. The trip home was rather wild in places because the wind blew hard and Old Annie is a drifter. We must look into a sway bar before our long trip this summer. John actually got car sick, slightly, from the swaying. Needless to say my arm muscles ached from trying to keep her headed in the right direction, but once I was through driving I was fine. If any of you have tried to reach my cell...

John and Sue 2008

Apr 14, 2008 - This is a Test

This is a photo I took a couple days ago of our motorhome we call "Annie". We are hoping to leave this Thursday and drive as far as Nashville the first day. The next day we're not sure how far we'll get as we may take a different route other than the one we took two years ago when we made the same trip. I do all of the driving and I do not like driving around Atlanta - worse traffic ever! But on that second day, before we leave Tennessee, we're going to stop at Christine's place of business - All That Scraps - to see how her business is set...
