We are in Hartford, Illinois visiting the historic Lewis & Clark camp. This is the actual point of departure for the whole expedition. We have visited many of the camps all over the country, but this one was the most exciting. The address is actually One, Louis & Clark. :-) The first thing we did was watch a stirring account of the expedition presented in a 12-minute film, “The Journey’s Edge.” The highlight of the Visitor Center is surely the magnificent 55-foot full-scale replica of the expedition’s keelboat. From Cahokia RV Parque – Cahokia, IL Before the 90 degree forecasted temperatures arrived we wanted to reach our first destination of the day……..Our Lady of the Snows Shrine. This outdoor 200 acre peaceful devotional area is set amongst beautifully landscaped gardens and the natural beauty found in this wooded acreage. The main attraction is the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows which is the largest outdoor shrine in North America. Nov 3, 2007 - Westward with Lewis and Clark

Stopped at the Lewis and Clark State Historic Site in Hartford, IL. There's a museum and replica of the military camp, Camp River Dubois, where the "Corps of Discovery" prepared to set out on their expedition into the western frontier in 1804. The camp is near the "convergence of the three rivers," the Mississippi, Missouri and Dubois (Wood River). It was at the mouth of the Dubois where they embarked on their journey down the Missouri in a keel boat to points unknown, and to people, plants and animals as yet unseen, (at least by them). And...
