Mar 20, 2018 - Camp Lakewood Campground

Ha just when you thought you knew where our next stop is, we go and change it up. Joys of mobile RVing eh. Randi had a couple of weird dreams last night(you ask her lol) so we had an early start today need less to say. Did another requisite stop at Cracker Barrel for brunch(man they lay on the food) so will be late supper tonight. Weather is cooler today but still above freezing but have RV anti freeze at the ready. One more night in Indiana tomorrow and then we will decide when its time to hit the border. Not much more for tonight folks...

Jun 17, 2016 - Staying Put In Effingham

From Camp Lakewood Campground – Effingham, IL Just a short note to let everyone know that “IT WAS” the oil cooler that is bad and needs to be replaced. Guess in 178,000 miles something has to fail but why couldn’t it be something a little less expensive and quicker to fix. So we will call this park our home until next Thursday or Friday (or until the truck is finished). Rudy got a call today after having it in for computer analysis this morning about 2:00 p.m. and they said the Power Stroke tech was finished with all his jobs and if we...

Jun 16, 2016 - Abrupt Change In Plans

From Camp Lakewood Campground – Effingham, IL How does that saying go….. “What you don’t know won’t hurt you”. We were up bright and early and on the road before 7:30 a.m. Today’s trip was about 320 miles and wanted to arrive earlier at the RV Park than our 300+ mile day Tuesday. Mission accomplished, reached our destination just shy of 3:00 p.m. However it was the hours between departure and arrival that made this day on for the record book! Let me back up a bit…….Tuesday near the end of our long day the Edge Evolution which Rudy uses to...

Aug 10, 2015 - Leg #20

/// Camp Lakewood Campground Effingham, IL Sunday - August 9, 2015 We departed the Shipshewana South RV Campground shortly after 7:00 A.M. Our route today would take us west on I-80 & 90 to IL and then south on I-57 to Effingham. The road conditions today were mostly good. Traffic was lighter than expected but it was a Sunday. The weather conditions at time of departure were good. Once we headed south on I-57 we ran into some rain, heavy at times but it didn't last long. This makes just three times that we have driven in the rain since...

Sep 14, 2014 - August 18 - September 3, 2014

Monday morning we got Boo up and we got ready to head to the vet’s office. We had to collect a potty for a fecal float which wasn’t a big deal since we always pick up after her anyway. But we also had to collect urine for the urinalysis to get a report to send to the insurance company. That’s a little trickier, especially for a little dog that’s close to the ground. We wanted to collect from the first voiding of the day, so, Benny (being the one that normally takes her out for her first “business” of the day) had practiced a couple of times...

Jul 13, 2014 - A quick stop in Illinois

We left early as we had another 5 hour drive day, which turned out to be a little longer due to construction. Jay was tired from driving yesterday, so I drove most of the way. As always… as soon as I started driving, the construction zone began. Luckily, they weren't white knuckle construction zones, like some can be. As we drive, we've noticed that there are some familiar names in places we don't expect. Before we left Texas, we drove through or near Beverly Hills, Italy, Paris, Atlanta and New Boston. Then the next day we drove near...

Jul 11, 2014 - Effingham, Illinois

Crossed Indiana today, and almost halfway across Illinois. Point of interest here. The town boasts a large cross, 198 feet tall at the intersection of Interstate 57 and Interstate 70. The cross in Groom, TX is 190 feet tall. They look much the same. The stations of the cross in Groom, TX are much better!

May 8, 2014 - Gateway to the West

Left Branson and stayed last night at a KOA in Eureka, again on Route 66. It was about 30 miles from St. Louis so today we could drive to the Gateway Arch and then get out of MO before major traffic jams started. It was difficult getting to the arch in IRVing because of the construction (and no signage) all over the area. St. Louis is gearing up for the 250th birthday of St. Louis and the 50th birthday of the Gateway Arch so it is currently a work in progress. Missed the turn for parking at the Arch, due to no signage, so parked in a Busch...

Sep 23, 2012 - Driving to Gettysburg

We left Junction City, Kansas, yesterday morning bound for Gettysburg. The weather was sunny but cool and Tiny, following behind Grumbles, is all fixed up with new parts and running smoothly. After making it through Kansas City we stopped for the night in Kingdom City, Missouri, at a touristy place named “Ozarkland”. This store has lots of fun nostalgia trinkets, t-shirts, jewelry, funny signs, fudge, and other enjoyable items. However, living in a RV I find I really don’t buy many knick-knack sort of items so our pocketbook did not suffer...

Jun 5, 2012 - Drive to Effingham, IL

The drive to Effingham went well. We decided to take the interstate route through TN, MO, IL (I40-I155-I55-I57). Last year we took highways through TN and KY to IL. The interstate was an easier drive and interesting once neither of us have taken that route for several years. The campground is large with lots of trees....it is on a lake and feels more like a state park than a private campground. There isn't much to do around the area making it perfect for a couple night stay. We have learned that it is nice to have a free day our second day...

Summer 2012

Mar 30, 2012 - Bowling Green,KY to Effingham,IL

Another great travel day wound us along beautiful Kentucky Parkways and past the famed Audubon Park. We wished we had had the time to visit and marked it as a place to return on our next sojourn. Farmland and forests settled our restive souls and and a final back road journey through several small farmland communities finished our journey to Effingham,IL-a center of southern Illinois commerce and transportation. We checked into Woods and Water Campground and headed to a local favorite, xxxx, for dinner. Here one finds the heart of...
