Jul 13, 2011 - WBCCI International 2011

I was elected to attend this year’s International in Du Quoin, IL. My sole purpose was to represent our Unit (NOVA) on the constitutional revision. Because of the input I had from Airforms I did not have high expectations. Additionally when it was announced that the revision was not going to be brought forward at the meeting, I was further disillusioned. With this in mind I’m happy to report that I had a great time. Sue and I met many wonderful people. I have to say we were welcomed at all times. Thanks to Dan we were allowed to park with...

Jun 12, 2011 - WBCCI International Rally DuQuoin, Illinois

We spent 3 weeks in Du Quoin, IL for the International Rally. It was nice to see friends and make new friends. Ken and I both worked most of the time. As torch bearers, Ken and I were part of the opening ceremony of the rally. Pat entered his cat Riley in the pet show and won a blue ribbon. We had a pretty good time. The weather was hot and humid most of the time and early on there was a tornado that did damage at the fairgrounds, but very little to the Airstreams there at the time. Du Quoin is a small town and the folks there were very...

Jun 30, 2010 - Days 30 thru 36 - Bob has a gig

Bob has a gig to teach people how to drive motorhomes at the Fleetwood Motorhome Rally in Du Quoin, IL. He is one of the instructors with RV Basic Training. Most of the clients are women who want to learn how, or get better at, driving a large motorhome. On the way from Dickson TN to Du Quoin IL, we were approaching a construction area that would delay us about 90 minutes. Over the cb radio, the trucker ahead of us asked if the 5th wheel behind him "had his ears on". Bob responded. A southbound trucker suggested an alternate route. The...

Jun 29, 2010 - MORE SCHOOL DAZE

ILLINOIS STATE FAIRGROUNDS, DU QUOIN, IL ....TUESDAY The temperature was in the low 70's when we awoke this morning. Not supposed to get above 85 today. Welcome relief. We went up to Walmart and Autozone to get some light bulbs and CLR cleaner. Back here went over to the showroom and looked at the Discovery 40 foot diesel coach again. Told the salesman what I had and what I would be willing to pay. He said he would work on it. Edie and I were both scheduled to attend seminars at 1 PM, so we told him we would be back about 3:30. I...

Jun 28, 2010 - School Day At The Rally

ILLINOIS STATE FAIRGROUNDS, DU QUOIN, IL......MONDAY The alarm went off at 0700 this morning. This is the day we are supposed to get our waste tanks pumped out. There are no sewer hook-ups here and our registration fee included one pump out. I had some coffee and a donut then went out and opened the bay that houses the drain connection. Also the CEO of Fleetwood is making a presentation at 0900 this morning and I wanted to attend that. The presentation by Fleetwood was very informative. He covered the bankruptcy, year before last, the...

Jun 27, 2010 - Day Two At The Rally

ILLINOIS STATE FAIRGROUNDS, DU QUOIN, IL SUNDAY Slept in til almost 0900 this morning. By the time we got dressed, had breakfast and checked emails, we decided to go down to Carbondale to pick up prescriptions at Walgreens. It's 18 miles south on US51. We got our meds and it was lunch time. We ate lunch at a Wendy's, next door to the drug store. When we got back, decided to go over and look thru the motor homes on display. They had all new 2011 models on display. The update to our model is a Bounder 35H. Some changes have been made that...

Jun 26, 2010 - Day One At The Rally

ILLINOIS STATE FAIRGROUNDS, DU QUOIN, IL SATURDAY Edie and I both got rested up last night and felt pretty good this morning. We went over to the main building, where the vendor booths and RV's are displayed, to see what was happening. I found a guy selling gas struts for the bay doors on the coach. I bought four to replace some that would not hold the doors up. Two would not hold the doors on the left side up, since they needed 70# struts, so I returned the 60's that I had bought. He will have some heavier duty struts in a couple of weeks...

Jun 25, 2010 - Driving Our Toy To Illinois

ILLINOIS STATE FAIRGROUNDS, DU QUOIN, IL FRIDAY The alarm went off this morning at 0710. Of course we both leaped out of bed.....not. We did get up soon and began to get ready to travel again. Coffee, breakfast (for me), store things, unhook plumbing and electrical, dump tanks, hook on the car and we are ready to go. Got away a little after 10. We have about 220 miles to do today....almost all on interstate roads. I24 out of Nashville, thru Kentucky, and into Illinois. It ends at I57 and that goes just about due north. The last 20 miles...

Had a great time in Du Quoin this weekend. We camped at the Du Quoin State Fair Grounds RV Park. Rate was $15 per night for Elect & Water Site lakeside no sewer available but a dump station close by. Hot showers were available at the bathhouse. No reservations available, first come first serve. There isn't a play land for the children but a very nice place for bikes and scooters around the paved loop through the camp sites. Ducks and Geese on the lake to feed. The only thing we found wrong was the trains that ran through the night and the...

Jun 28, 2008 - International Rally, Du Quoin IL.

We are done with the Newmar International Rally and moved on to Owensboro, Kentucky, for a few days rest before starting north. We need a little rest after the Rally. We had over 500 motor homes, and 1100 people in attendance. Our Region had responsibility for food service this year, and even though, the caterers prepared and served the food, we kept it organized, cleaned tables, served drinks, deserts etc. We were all happy to see the closing dinner. On Thursday evening the city of Du Quoin thanked us for coming to their town, in a very...

Jun 26, 2008 - Du Quoin, IL at the Newmar International Rally

Well I have gotten behind on this thing. LOL We left St. Charles, MO on Sat 6/21 and caravaned over to Du Quoin with Dave and Jan, and Don and Alice Faye. It was an uneventful trip over. We arrived at the Du Quoin fairgrounds where the rally is being held and were led into our site where all the Fulltimers would be located together. We were all told that we would only have 30amp electrical, but lo and behold, when we got ready to plug in, we had 50amp, which means we could run both A/C's. Thank God because it has been hot. Only a few of us...

Jun 21, 2008 - Newmar Kountry Klub Rally in Duquoin, Illinois

We left Zion, Illinois on June 11th heading toward Du Quoin in southern Illinois to attend the Newmar Kountry Klub Rally. We stopped first at Prairie Pines RV Park in Rantoul, Illinois. It is located in a former mobile home park that was part of Chanute Air Force Base, which was closed in 1993. This campground was a real gem. We had a large site with full hook ups for $100/week - the best rate we have found so far in our travels. We stayed 8 days and then moved on to Effingham, Illinois to the Lakewood RV park. It was also a nice park, but...
