The last time we had taken an Amtrak train, indeed any long distance train in America, had been from Washington DC to New York in the days when daughter Bryony faithfully obeyed her Dad’s instructions and Laurence was toddling all over the place. I thought that the passage of two and a half decades may have fixed the wobbles so we booked an overnight train to Chicago. ...
