Mar 13, 2018 - the fourth day

We're about four hours drive from home, entirely feasible, but by the time we would get home the temperatures would be below freezing. As I am writing this snow flurries are falling. Wiser to arrive midday tomorrow when water chores would be more doable and temperatures above freezing. We are camped across the Mississippi River from St. Louis and saw great views of the city and its distinctive arch as we neared the campground. This area gets a lot of bad press of the crime based sort in our Chicago based news media. And we know that Chicago...

Jul 20, 2016 - Cahokia, Illinois

July 20, 2016 Hot again, 8 a.m. and the temp is nearly 80. 1st stop today is Camping World for the guard for the car, the bra was just too difficult to use. We just crossed the Missouri for the 4th time, big, meandering river. Sweet smell of new mown grass, mowing along the freeway and we have the windows open. Staying in a small town called Cahokia, just across the river from St. Louis. 1st thing is cool down the rig, get showers, wash clothes, go to dinner and then some shopping

Sep 20, 2014 - Land of Lincoln

Another day, another fuel stop...this time at a Flying J just down the highway from our campground - very RV friendly, lots of room, lots of diesel pumps, and -best of all - good coffee! Our next stop was the Illinois welcome center, shortly after noon. Actually, it was shortly after 11 am since we gained an hour crossing into Illinois. We "dined" in our trailer for lunch...Jean provided the soup, I had the sandwich fixings. After lunch, Mark and Jean took over the driving chores. We hope to be in camp by 3 pm after a brief shopping stop at...

New Mexico Trek 2014

Oct 17, 2013 - Thurs.:Day 2

October 17, 2013 - Day 2 Gerry could have handled the excruciating pain in his back; he could have handled the rain coming down; & he could have handled the truck with the dead battery BUT ALL AT THE SAME TIME???? Step 1: Tylenol & Bio-Freeze; Step 2: Shorts, sandals, & raincoat; Step 3: Janet goes to the RV office and arranges for an employee to give us a boost with his truck. Thank God we packed the booster cables. By 9:30 A.M. we were on the road trying to get back to the I-70 heading to Cahokia, IL (just across the Mississippi River...

Oct 14, 2011 - Meet Me in St. Louis or at Least in Cahokia

We drove a very short 100 miles to St. Louis intending to stay at the Casino Queen RV Park. Imagine our surprise when we drove up to a sign saying the park was closed for the season! Their security was alert to the problem however, and they came equipped with a map to the closest RV park which was only about 5 miles away. We drove right over to the Cahokia RV Parque (yes, they really spell it that way) and checked in. The park is just fine, nothing fancy and lots of permanent residents, but the best thing is the Sawmill barbecue restaurant...

Two Hams in a Can

May 26, 2011 - Reached New Location After Scary Evening In Paducah

We are at a new location today…..moved about 175 miles north to Cahokia, IL which is just to the east of St. Louis, MO. In fact the “Arch” could be seen when we were only about 5 miles from the park as we drove along the Interstate…….an awesome sight! I will have to say that our last night in Paducah was one for the memories……..scary memories! As most know, this year has been horrible for tornadoes all throughout the mid-west and southern states. This year is setting all kinds of records; not ones you want to set, with the most deaths since...

Home Sweet RV - 2011

Sep 24, 2010 - Day Thirteen - Missouri & Illinois.

Hi Guys, Not a real lot to report to you today. We left behind Platte City and travelled through Missouri for around four or five hours crossing firstly the Missouri River and then just before our arrival in St Louis we crossed the mighty Mississippi River. Both rivers are huge, if you where to compare them to crossing the Yarra in Melbourne, it would be like four or five times wider and unlike the Yarra both these rivers are used to transport cargo and therefore have large barges and ships on them most of the time. Once we arrived in St...

Sep 16, 2008 - Vers St Louis, Missouri
