Oct 3, 2016 - Benton, IL

Today's drive was a surprise. We passed through the rolling hills of Kentucky (not a surprise) and continued through the rolling hills of Southern Indiana (big surprise!). I had no idea that Indiana was not all flat cornfields! Likewise the gently rolling countryside of southern Illinois, although not as hilly as southern Indiana, was also not what we expected.

Apr 16, 2015 - Almost Home

Hello All, Well since my last post Linda and I have taken full possession of our new Texas home. We spent 4 days moving things from our shed on 328 and the Raven over to the new place. Then spend a day getting it ready to be closed up for the 7 month "summer". A lot of work but we know we will enjoy our new place in the fall when we return. As I write this we are in southern Illinois after three days of driving. One more to go and we should be in Kenosha tomorrow afternoon. as you can see in the second picture, we left our nice leather...

2013 NORTH WEST TRIP

Dec 26, 2012 - Snowbound in Illinois!

And I thought I was heading South? Ten inches of snow overnight so we will not be moving today. We will spend the day getting the trailer organized a little better. As I write this, (it is about 1pm) it is still snowing. I could have seen this in Kenosha. Where is global warming when you need it? We hope to be on the road again tomorrow, trying to get to warmer weather!

The Heasley Travels

May 2, 2011 - Benton, IL

We continued under the constant threat of heavy rains and stopped for fuel after crossing the Mississippi River on I-57. The Big Muddy was HUGE and had definitely spilled over its banks. Again, it was running so fast, lots of trees and junk in it. And it, too, looked pretty darn angry! As we were getting ready to leave, about a dozen National Guard trucks towing large raft-type boats pulled in to refuel the trucks and the troops. After we all agreed it was a great day (we had all just received the news about Bin Laden!), they told us they...

Apr 11, 2010 - Our trip West begins at Rend Lake, IL

*Sunday April 11, 2010* We left Farmer City today for a trip called “SUMMER 2010 WESTBOUND”. Our first stop is only 190 miles from home at Rend Lake, Benton IL. We plan to stay here for several days and relax, enjoying the beautiful sunsets each night. It is unusually warm this spring- temperatures are in the 80’s with mild wind, perfect for camping next to a lake. The back of our camper sits 30 feet from the lake and we have a 180 degree view of the lake. The weather has been like this all week, so we are not sure what day we will move...

Sep 10, 2009 - Wayne Fitzgerall State Park

9-10-09 We arrived at the Wayne Fitzgerall State Park at Rend Lake today; we got a site on a point overlooking the lake in three directions. When entering the park, we saw about 20 wild turkeys. 9-11 & 12 The sites next to the lake are filling up with campers, but most of the rest of the park is empty. It is sunny and mid 80’s, wonderful weather. 9-13-09, Sunday Another beautiful day--we stayed around the camp and had a wiener roast in the evening.

Sep 7, 2009 - Rend Lake at Benton IL

9-7-2009 We arrived at South Sandusky campground at Rend Lake about 2 PM. We arrived about ½ hour after our friends. We set up camp and enjoyed a nice afternoon; we built a fire and had a wiener roast and S’mores. The forecast was rain every day, but it looks like we might luck out and not get any rain, none so far, it was partly sunny and in the mid 80’s. 9-8-2009 Looks like the rain is still holding off. We enjoyed the day with our friends at the campsite, mid 80’s and pleasant. Judy fixed barbecued pork steak and chicken for supper....

Jun 16, 2008 - New Tires and then we're on our way to Kentucky

Yola Smolas, Today Mom and I went and got Dad’s Father’s Day gifts. (Yes I realize it is the day after Father’s Day. While you are on the road full time with Mom and Dad it's hard to get away from them to buy surprise gifts.) Dad was getting the tires replaced so this was a good opportunity to get him something. I bought him some new belts that he wanted. He also wanted new tennis shoes but they didn't have the right kind. Mom and I also went to a bookstore. I didn’t get any new books though (the bookstore didn't have my Manga books)....
