Dec 20, 2013 - Arrived at Jack & Rosey's in Belleville

We want to thank Jack & Rosy for putting us up in their home two separate times, giving us their bedroom, fixing us breakfast, taking us out to eat and keeping us entertained. It was like being at the Holiday Inn Express except we couldn't get WiFi!!! You need to find that sign-in password Jack so that I don't go through withdrawal. ;-) We drove by the house we lived in on Villa Drive and based on the way it looked I'll bet our old neighbors sure miss us. We all went out to a Chinese buffet on Thursday evening and met up with some old...

Oct 15, 2012 - Scott AFB, it's 15 miles east of St. Louis

We drove 167 mile to Scott AFB, near Belleville, IL. We've been here before and liked it. This is a four night stop, we anticipate taking advantage of some military resources such as commissary and BX, maybe a golf game. We heard though that downtown St. Louis is inundated with baseball fans so we won't be going there. Any other time, earlier in the year, we'd try to buy a ticket and see a game. We enjoyed the bird...

Oct 12, 2012 - Final word on Horseshoe Lakes

We are finishing up our three weeks here. It’s been very relaxing. Didn’t get out to see much on this stop, as predicted. However one of the things we wanted and planned for was color change of trees. The color change caught up to us and we enjoyed every hue and color. So beautiful and awe inspiring. But, at the RV park we met some great people. For instance, two doors away from us we met a couple from Reno, NV. Our home town. This couple, the Wrights have been out here for ten years. Dave and Les fly fished a few times together here. We...

Oct 7, 2008 - Scott AFB and St. Louis, Mo

First, you have'ta know Scott AFB is near Belleville, ILL and Belleville is near St. Louis, Mo. The maps we use on the BLOG don't have military installations noted. When we called the phone number for our reservation a knowledgeable helpful lady answered all our questions and gave us directions to the FAMCAMP from the main gate. Upon arrival we found the FAMCAMP to be well maintained and clean. When we finished setting up we took a walk around the camp and Scott Lake. The lake can be fished, but the bass have to be put back in the lake....
