Joint Jottings You would think that, having completed long trips like this, that we would be on top of things. . . Guess there were just too many nice days this summer meant for lazing around the pool and dead-heading the coneflowers! We've stopped the newspapers, arranged for the lawn to be mowed, made a date to close the pool, made sure Barkley will survive our absence, made lists for the house sitter. We are doing our part for US economic growth by supporting a small village while we are gone. One thing we are not doing is schlepping...

Apr 22, 2011 - Researching transportation in Europe

Bob's Bits I enjoy driving in Europe. The main thing to remember is, as a driver, to have the middle of the road on your right side at all times. This will allow you to drive correctly in England & Ireland and, just like home here in the States, when you are in continental Europe. I like to think that when I am driving somewhere new, I pay more attention. Here in the Chicago area I gave up driving a stick shift when I had to spend 3 to 4 hours in stop & go traffic on the expressways. In Europe, the new model autos have 6 speed stick shifts...

Aug 19, 2010 - Preparation is the hardest part of the trip!

Half the fun of traveling is preparing for the journey -- well, except for the house cleaning, laundry, lawn mowing, garage cleaning. . . . And this trip has been no exception. In addition to doing our part to support the economic comeback by purchasing updates to all the travel books in the world (Fodor's-Lonely Planet-DK-Rick Steve's-Time Out) on London, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam, there is the mapping of what we want to see, where we want to eat and where do we sleep. The internet complicates things with its plethora of information....
