Aug 16, 2010 - Return to Arlington Heights

On Sunday we headed north to Kankakee State Park, but it soon became apparent that it would be better to drive to my brother's house in Arlington Heights. The reason is that we were on a mission: to help my mother move to assisted living. We made it to my brother's house soon after noon. Jerry knows just how to set the wood under the wheels of our RV so we are sitting level under a tree in my brother Al's big driveway. After lunch I went over to my Mom's to get paperwork ready for her application and to talk further about the place we have...

Jul 25, 2010 - Concert at Ravinia

We moved from Chicago to the East Coast in December 1978. One of the things I have missed the most in Chicago is going to Chicago Symphony concerts at Ravinia in Highland Park in the summers. Whenever we are in Chicago during the summer, we plan a trip there. Today was the day. We picked up some chicken and headed up to Highland Park. We were joined by my Mom, brother Allen, Marjie and her parents. It was nice meeting Marjie's parents at Ravinia. We seem to have a lot in common. Everything at the concert was splendid. Splendid seems a...

Jul 24, 2010 - Family Picnic Enjoyed

Our family is spread out all across the country and so it is very difficult to get together which makes a day like yesterday very special. At 10:15 a.m. Jerry and I pulled up in front of my cousin Marsha's house in Evanston. We had not seen each other in over 20 years. We had so much fun talking about our memories from childhood when we grew up just a few miles apart, as well as the ups and downs of life that have gotten us to this, our 7th decade. (I think I got that right. We're both in our sixties.) After a nice talk to kick off the...

Jul 20, 2010 - Dapper Dog Digs Chicago

We're spending a week in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Fortunately my brother, Al, has a huge driveway and we are "camped" on it. The first night my other brother, Brian, and his family spent the night inside Allen's house. We had five cars and one 38' motorhome and they all fit in the driveway. It works really well. Houses typically only have 20 amp service so we have to manage our power to make sure we do not, for instance, have the air conditioning and coffee pot or microwave running at the same time. Since it is hot this week, this is...

Nov 23, 2007 - Big night out on the town!

Today was a busy day! It started with some Black Friday shopping. Darlene, Teri, and I headed out into the hustle and bustle for some retail therapy. Armed with a fist full of coupons, we were determined to find a deal. I think we found a few good ones! Regardless, we had a blast and it was nice to visit with one another. Once home from shopping, the focus turned to preparing for the evening. Paul and Darlene had set up a nice night out on the town for everyone. Paul and Darlene, Mike and Zeny, Jimmy and Ann, Steve and Nicole, and ourselves...
