Today we head for Christy's aunt and uncle's house in Island City, Oregon. We wanted to go a way that we had never been before so we programmed our GPS system to take us on scenic highways. Within the first half hour we drove by a wildfire that was burning right next to the road. The helicopter was filling the bucket in the river next to us and spilled water on our motorhome as it flew over us to the fire. But the drive was beautiful with winding roads alongside rivers as we followed the Lewis and Clark Trail most of the day. Then we found...

Aug 21, 2005 - Hot Trip to Whitebird - Nes Perce Battleground - Snake River Canyon

Took the Fat-Boy (Julie's bike) for a ride to White Bird about 90 miles south in the Snake River Canyon. Got a late start and the temperature was really going up. Got into the high country for about an hour and had another 7 mile long 8% down grade to run. . . glad I didn't have the RV. Checked out one of the river trip companies but decided not to come down to this area to camp. The ride back to Clarkson was HOT. . .114^. The area is appropriately named Hells Canyon.
