Jun 30, 2017 - Good Times in the Big Sick

You know how you can tell who the prostitute is in the Miss America pageant? She is the one wearing the sash that says Miss I - DA - HO. That was the joke the Southwest flight attendant shared with me and Bec as we were waiting for Jules to board the flight to Boise, Idaho. The flight attendant helped us save the exit row for the 3 of us. Yep, not even A listers anymore and on the exit row. This girls trip to Idaho was off to a great start... Then, we discovered we were actually heading to San Diego. Huh? Denver to San Diego to Boise. Makes...

Dec 9, 2012 - Fun Weekend Get Away!

We managed to enjoy a brief get away this past weekend when Steve and Linda invited us to join them in Sun Valley. Steve and the band, High Street, had a gig playing for St. Luke's Hospital for their fifth year at the Sun Valley Inn. Fortunately for us, several of the band members elected not to stay in the rooms provided and we were the lucky recipients of staying at the Inn. Linda picked us up Saturday morning and drove the three hour drive up to Sun Valley where we met Steve at their friend's home where Steve and some of the other band...

New Home in Idaho

Jun 11, 2012 - Sun Valley and Two More Scenic By-Ways

To coin a phrase from our friends, Gloria and Jerry – “Today was a WOWSER day”! We left the coach shortly after 8:30; destination Sun Valley! A mere 200 miles taking what some call the “back way” to get there, but the more scenic route as well. And then we completed the loop on the return. We were fortunate to have fabulous weather and probably one of the nicest days since we arrived in Boise! We followed the same route we took to Idaho City several days ago and continued along the Ponderosa Pine Scenic By-way taking us further north...

May 31, 2012 - Going home

Tired but satisfied, we have b'fast at the hotel, and gather our stuff to go home. The airport is tiny, and it is very relaxed to return the car, get our boarding passes, and go through security. No problems as we change planes in Salt Lake, getting our seats changed. No problems in Atlanta, getting dinner and beers as we wait for our final leg. Home by midnight, and even though I'm tired, I have fond memories of Idaho.

Where is Idaho?

May 30, 2012 - Last discovery day, head to Boise

We have to get up early to get our Breakfast. Sharron has to go into town, so we have to eat at about 7:15AM. OK, up, and cross to the big house to eat. It is fresh eggs, from the hens in the hen house on her property. She made us potatoes and onions, as requested, and good blueberry pancakes. We get through a whole pot of coffee. Back to the room, and back to bed for a short nap. We are both feeling the affects of the hike! Get up to shower, pack and get on the road of discovery. We plan the day. Check out the town of Salmon, just 11...

May 29, 2012 - Check out, onto the open road

Making our way to Salmon today. First a quick visit to the hot pool again. Great soak, and some sauna. Pack and eat a few apple turnovers for b'fast. Stop at the grocery again, for picnic stuff. Also get a b'fast bagel, and some egg salad, and good coffee to start off. We get on the road after gassing up and the scenery is just incredible. We stop at several places to read the historic signs, and take the pictures from the scenic views. We then get another one of those "oh not again" moments when the tire pressure gauge comes on,...

Where is Idaho?

May 28, 2012 - Last show day

Down to the floor after some breakfast, in the lodge. Wrapping up the Wellness Festival, was Alan Cohen, headliner speaker. Also Carol King is there, signing her new book. She owns a ranch in the area. Saying Good morning to the Swans, as we drive over to the Convention Inn. We didn't have as much traffic, but many of the vendors came to visit, and a few folks that waiting until the last day, indeed returned to get something to take home with them. The floor closed at 2PM. We got packed up in record time, and I was able to go to the...

Where is Idaho?

May 27, 2012 - Show day 2

Woke up, and it was snowing. It is late May, and there is snow on the branches and on the bushes, and on the grass. We went for B'fast, and by the time we finished, most of the snow had melted. Great b'fast too, with homemade jams, strawberry, blueberry and peach. Big day on the show floor, lots of people, and many good speakers for all to see. It was snowy and rainy all day, and perhaps that is why the place was so busy. Met lot's of good folks. We went into town after the exhibit floor close, and stopped at the grocery store for supplies...

May 26, 2012 - Show day 1

Five AM came too soon. Had coffee in the room, then drive over to the Sun Valley Convention Inn, only two minutes down the road. Brrr..it is cold, unloading car and getting stuff into the room. Set up, and complete for a 9AM walkin. Got some B'fast at the place inside the convention ballroom center. Felt like I haven't eaten in forever. Very slow day, not much real interest in the booth and it is difficult to stay awake. Hurt my back somehow, too. Made it to 6PM closing, just barely. Went back to the Lodge, and had dinner in their...

May 25, 2012 - On the road to Sun Valley

First up, some food. It was cold in Boise, but not nearly as cold as in Sun Valley. We expected it to get to 29 degrees that night, and it had snowed the night before. We had on our jackets, but it wasn't too cold in Boise. Drove down the airport hiway. We found a sushi place, RAW, right next to a liquor store. How accommodating is that? Got our Vodka, had sushi, and headed out on Interstate 84 to Sun Valley. Mountains are in the distance, and snow covered mountains in the far distance. Wasn't sure of how long the drive would be. It turned...
