Aug 18, 2010 - Another Waltz has Ended

After five weeks, our slow waltz through Southern Colorado has ended. It took us 2 days (yes, we are slow travelers!) to go from Fruita, Colorado to Bear Lake State Park, Idaho. This state park is about 11 miles east of Saint Charles and considered the southeastern part of Idaho. Bear Lake is known for its striking turquoise blue color which is the result of tiny soluble carbonates in the water. That’s the technical reason, my take is that it’s just plain pretty. OK, so why are here in Idaho? Two reasons, (1) it’s much cooler here – the...

Aug 3, 2010 - Grand Teton National Park

#5 Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming July 31, August 1 and 2: We all went to various places the past few days. The quaint city of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the normal tourist pull outs along highway 89 and the roads less traveled in the back country, dirt and gravel, not many cars venture off the highway but they are worth it for great views and photos most who visit here never see. The Bonneville Salt Flats is one of the most unique natural features in Utah stretching over 30,000 acres. As soon as we left Wendover, Nevada heading east on I- 80 we were running parallel to...

Sometimes the only contact is when a get together is planned. Chaotic behavior, laughter, kidding, and rivalry become the family menu for everyone. "Do you remember when?" is the standard statement and the overall feeling is one of historical comfort and support. Barb and I have been visiting her brother in the Bear Lake area of Idaho for 15 years, tradition has...
