Jun 15, 2018 - Payette National Forest

Prior to arriving in McCall Idaho Marc was anticipating driving into the surrounding mountains of the Payette National Forest to check out the geology. One hundred million years ago, the formation of the Idaho Batholith gave the Payette NF much of it's present character. This granitic body of rock, the largest in the United States, underlies much of the Forest. Slick Rock, east of McCall, provides a massive example of the batholith's composition. The pictures posted with this journal entry were taken in the Lick Creek watershed which winds...

Our drive to Spokane was a bit tedious . We were rather unlucky with slow drivers in front of us. Passing opportunities were few due to either oncoming traffic or uphill passing lanes which don't work with our gutless wonder. We took a scenic byway from Midway to Spokane ( Sherman Pass) which was nice, very little traffic. We stayed in Coeur d'Alene Thursday night. Friday morning we went to ATT to get our ph# 1-208-651-9935 for those of you that would like to call us. 𯘊 Friday we drove along Lake Coeur d'Alene using Hwy 97 thru Harrison....

Jul 6, 2014 - Mountain Trip To McCall

Our oldest son Shawn and family had camping reservations at Ponderosa State Park in McCall for the week of the fourth so Barb and I managed to grab a cabin for a couple of nights at the McCall RV Resort. It's just two hours north of Boise and a beautiful drive along the Payette River. We forgot how pretty it is. We should have got some pictures of the winding curves just above the river famous for it's rapids. The McCall RV Resort is very nice. We first stayed here in 2004 with our first fifth wheel. Up above the resort are log cabin-like...

/// McCall RV Resort McCall, ID Sunday – August 25, 2013 Low Temperature: 65 degrees High Temperature: 80 degrees Humidity: 35% A Travel Day: Woke to strong southerly winds and after a quick breakfast I started my pre-travel routine. Nancy already had much of her checklist completed. We departed Mountain Home, ID by 10:00 AM and headed west on I-84 towards Boise with a strong tail wind. Traffic was surprisingly heavy. We made good time traveling to Boise and exited the interstate for Hwy 55 towards McCall. This highway I discovered is also...

Jul 15, 2012 - Ponderosa State Park, Idaho

I finally left the state of Oregon and crossed the border in Idaho,in the mountain time zone. I was headed to Ponderosa State Park just outside the tourist town of McCall, ID. The weather, like Baker City, OR was hot and I ran my a/c much of the time the first 4 days. Sure glad I had it. But it wasn't too humid so that was a bonus. My first site was a regular site, nicely shaded, back-in site. The parks call the sand area outside your rig your 'living pad'. On it was your table, chained in place, and an area for a tent should you want to...

Getting ready for trip to NorwayHi Mike I didn't think I had any unique photos of Andy but just thought of this one. You may already have it but I took this the day that they dedicated this plaque to Andy on the bank of the Henry's Fork River in 2006. This was Andy's favorite river. CharlieCheers Charlie "For there's no foe like fear, and there's no friend like cheer, And sunshine will flash at our call; So crown Love as King, and let us all sing - "It's a mighty good world after all""

Aug 9, 2011 - Visit to McCall

Today we decided to go see the town of McCall. After our visit we decided to take a drive around the lake. Unknowing to us there was not a road that circles the lake. So after driving for about 30 miles or so, we decided now how do we get back to Pollock. We could either go back to McCall which was quite a ways away or take this detour. So the detour we decided to do. Not sure the name of the road but Debbie did NOT like it. Tom, was driving and the road had no guardrails, and when you looked over the side it was nothing but cliff's...

Jun 7, 2011 - Mc Call idaho

Rain was just ending, so we decided to walk into town. We just got into downtown when the rain started again, so we grabbed some drinks and hung out on a covered patio. Once the rain stopped, we then headed back along Highway 55, stopping at Woody’s for their lunch special and Abby got some dog biscuits from the owner. We made it back to the park with a muddy/wet dog that needed a quick bath. Then we headed back to the pool. We took an evening bike ride south from the airport and found a new development that had some bike trails and empty...

Jun 6, 2011 - Mc Call idaho

Weather man was calling for late day rain, so we headed out to Ponderosa State park for a ride. The park was pretty empty and we rode out to the peninsula on a road that we somehow thought was flat (a peninsula on a lake afterall) but was very hilly. We then detoured off on a wide trail that headed to a bay on the lake. From there we could back track or continue on a bike trail (much narrower) to the end of peninsula and meet up with the road (just under a mile). The fools we were, we took the trail. It was narrow, lots of trees and roots...

Jun 5, 2011 - Farragut State Park to Mc Call

Headed down highway 95 to Mc Call. Another perfect day, and we had hoped to get there before the nice weather disappeared. Some steep grades (like Lewiston) which were downhill for us, but still spectacular. Both the Salmon and little Salmon rivers were raging, and though we saw a lot of raft companies and buses, most were idle. We got to McCall in the early afternoon (lost an hour) and headed to the McCall RV Resort. This was a very nice park, that had been through a recent foreclosure, so it was starting to get some attention it had...

Apr 2, 2011 - McCall, Idaho

We had another great day in Idaho. We visited the resort city of McCall, Idaho. It is situated on the southern shore of the Payette Lake, near the center of the Payette National Forest. The population is about 2,000. It seemed like the "Big City" to us, after being in the small town of Riggins for weeks. :-) We were happy to find a nice sized grocery store where we stocked up on much needed supplies. Originally a logging community whose last sawmill closed in 1977, McCall is now an all-season tourist destination for outdoor recreation....
