Jul 15, 2012 - Ponderosa State Park, Idaho
I finally left the state of Oregon and crossed the border in Idaho,in the mountain time zone. I was headed to Ponderosa State Park just outside the tourist town of McCall, ID. The weather, like Baker City, OR was hot and I ran my a/c much of the time the first 4 days. Sure glad I had it. But it wasn't too humid so that was a bonus. My first site was a regular site, nicely shaded, back-in site. The parks call the sand area outside your rig your 'living pad'. On it was your table, chained in place, and an area for a tent should you want to...

Jan 1, 2012 - Prep for trip
Getting ready for trip to NorwayHi Mike I didn't think I had any unique photos of Andy but just thought of this one. You may already have it but I took this the day that they dedicated this plaque to Andy on the bank of the Henry's Fork River in 2006. This was Andy's favorite river. CharlieCheers Charlie "For there's no foe like fear, and there's no friend like cheer, And sunshine will flash at our call; So crown Love as King, and let us all sing - "It's a mighty good world after all""

Aug 9, 2011 - Visit to McCall
Today we decided to go see the town of McCall. After our visit we decided to take a drive around the lake. Unknowing to us there was not a road that circles the lake. So after driving for about 30 miles or so, we decided now how do we get back to Pollock. We could either go back to McCall which was quite a ways away or take this detour. So the detour we decided to do. Not sure the name of the road but Debbie did NOT like it. Tom, was driving and the road had no guardrails, and when you looked over the side it was nothing but cliff's...

Jun 7, 2011 - Mc Call idaho
Rain was just ending, so we decided to walk into town. We just got into downtown when the rain started again, so we grabbed some drinks and hung out on a covered patio. Once the rain stopped, we then headed back along Highway 55, stopping at Woody’s for their lunch special and Abby got some dog biscuits from the owner. We made it back to the park with a muddy/wet dog that needed a quick bath. Then we headed back to the pool. We took an evening bike ride south from the airport and found a new development that had some bike trails and empty...

Jun 6, 2011 - Mc Call idaho
Weather man was calling for late day rain, so we headed out to Ponderosa State park for a ride. The park was pretty empty and we rode out to the peninsula on a road that we somehow thought was flat (a peninsula on a lake afterall) but was very hilly. We then detoured off on a wide trail that headed to a bay on the lake. From there we could back track or continue on a bike trail (much narrower) to the end of peninsula and meet up with the road (just under a mile). The fools we were, we took the trail. It was narrow, lots of trees and roots...

Jun 5, 2011 - Farragut State Park to Mc Call
Headed down highway 95 to Mc Call. Another perfect day, and we had hoped to get there before the nice weather disappeared. Some steep grades (like Lewiston) which were downhill for us, but still spectacular. Both the Salmon and little Salmon rivers were raging, and though we saw a lot of raft companies and buses, most were idle. We got to McCall in the early afternoon (lost an hour) and headed to the McCall RV Resort. This was a very nice park, that had been through a recent foreclosure, so it was starting to get some attention it had...

Apr 2, 2011 - McCall, Idaho
We had another great day in Idaho. We visited the resort city of McCall, Idaho. It is situated on the southern shore of the Payette Lake, near the center of the Payette National Forest. The population is about 2,000. It seemed like the "Big City" to us, after being in the small town of Riggins for weeks. :-) We were happy to find a nice sized grocery store where we stocked up on much needed supplies. Originally a logging community whose last sawmill closed in 1977, McCall is now an all-season tourist destination for outdoor recreation....

From time to time I'll be adding to this journal as we make short trips and we'd love to have you along. If you're not interested, please let me know and I'll remove you from our list. Otherwise, come on along and enjoy the view. We left Nampa on Thursday, July 9th, on the maiden voyage in our new coach, headed for McCall, Idaho (click for pics). Jul 2, 2009 - Shoshone Falls/Dierkes Lake Park
July 02, 2009, Thursday - Day 17 - It was 60 degrees and sunny this morning when we woke up; feels so good! I'm going to have trouble returning to the Gulf Coast in a few more weeks. After breakfast in the nearby cafe, we headed out to do some sightseeing. Shoshone Falls and Dierkes Lake Park are the first items on our list and are only a few miles away. According to the brochure that I picked up at the visitor's center, Shoshone Falls is considered to be "the Niagara of the West". In fact, the brochure goes on to say that Shoshone Falls...

Oct 10, 2008 - Travelling to McCall
We travelled down to McCall along the scenic US 95. As we have found elsewhere in Idaho we travelled through high prairie plains and deep river gorges with stunning rolling hills. As we travelled we often saw signs which said “snow chains required when snow or icy conditions” then we knew the road was going to climb up to a pass and of course go down the other side. On one such pass we came out onto the high prairie and guess what we found? – snow! Another pass saw us looking over a stunning vista of the White Bird Battlefield. The road...

Sep 10, 2007 - An RV Drive on Logging Roads
Monday morining we left Boise headed north on Idaho Highway 55 enroute to the McCall Idaho area to visit with Dan and Jeanne Iverson. Dan is a USS Firedrake veteran that I have met over the internet while preparing for this reunion. They are full time RVers who own a small acerage in the woods just southeast of McCall. Dan had told me that he was able to take their fifth wheel home back to his property every summer and spend the summer there. Sounded like a dream to me and we were anxious to go to meet them both and see their little piece...
