Sep 24, 2012 - Hagerman, ID 2

This is our final adventurous day in Hagerman, ID. We set off to find Balanced Rock State Park. One of those days where you don't want to be following your GPS. Not sure where that would have taken us. What is so amazing about this countryside is for miles and miles it looks like wheat, alfalfa, corn fields, then all of a sudden you come upon a canyon. Balanced Rock State Park is like that. We dropped down all of a sudden and were in this most amazing rock canyon. We climbed back on top and just before the rock formations ended there sat...

Sep 23, 2012 - Hagerman, Idaho

9/23 – 9/24 Another 188 miles (US95, I-84, US30) brought us to a nice fisherman’s access parking lot along the Snake River in Hagerman, Idaho. While in the area we visited the Hagerman Fossil Beds Visitor Center. We discovered that around three million years ago there were horses right here in this area of Idaho (known as the Hagerman Horse) although scientists think that they were closer to zebras than horses.

Sep 20, 2012 - Hagerman, ID

From Caldwell, ID we traveled to Hagerman, ID on Tuesday, September 18, 2012. We planned to stay two nights and have actually decided to stay four nights. So much to see and do in this area. Hagerman is on old US 30 and we have driven through here several times. We have always said we wanted to come back and stay sometime so here we are. We are staying at Hagerman RV Village right in town. Great park and only $25.00 a night before Good Sam discount. Very friendly staff and seems to be a well run park. Hagerman is in the land of 1000...

Sep 1, 2012 - The Snake River

August 31st, 2012 Our stay in Hagerman Idaho is coming to an end. The only reason we stopped was because it was on our way. The town is small. There is no Walmart…no McDonalds. It has a very small grocery store and it has charm. This is farm country with vast fields of corn. Large farm machinery is expected around each and every turn. It is also home to the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument where more than 180 species of animals have been discovered including the Hagerman Horse that roamed the area during the Pliocene Epoch. Driving...

Aug 27, 2012 - Idaho

August 26th, 2012 Though I have often been wrong, usually I can tell within the first few minutes whether or not a new RV Park will be a good one or not. The moment we turned into Silver Spur RV in Silverton Oregon and saw the well laid out entry with its easy access and quick check-in I had a good feeling. Charlie fell head over heels in love with our new neighbors who spoiled him in turn and befriended me as well. We signed on for a week but extended our stay an additional week and would have liked to stay longer. The park itself offered...

Jun 15, 2012 - Hagerman Valley, Idaho

Today we decided to take a drive along the Hagerman Valley. In addition to the Fossil Beds National Monument, there are several other things to see in the area. We did not get to all of them, but what we saw was pretty spectacular. Our first stop of the morning was a Malad Gorge State Park. Malad Gorge is a section of the Malad River where there is a gorge 250 feet deep and 2 1/2 miles long. There is a narrow, metal bridge that affords an opportunity to walk across the gorge and get a view of the Devil's Washbowl 250 feet below. I did walk...

Jun 14, 2012 - Twin Falls, Idaho Area

Today we rode back down the road to Twin Falls, Idaho. Twin Falls is about the size of Clovis, NM and is the largest metropolitan area with 100 miles. The next biggest is Boise, located another 130 or so miles up the road. Twin Falls sports the Perrine Memorial Bridge (named after an early founder who brought Twin Falls from a desert outpost to a flourishing city) that spans the Snake River. About 1500 feet long and 450 feet high, the bridge is used by people from all over the world as a Base Jumping Site. People jump off the bridge and...

Where RV Going Next?

May 24, 2012 - Hagerman, ID

Vale, Oregon is known for dozens of murals that cover the downtown building walls. Most depict an aspect of the Oregon Trail pioneers. We’ve stopped in Idaho to rest for a day. We are trying to book a two hour cruise today along the Snake River. This area is called the Magic Valley. It had hot springs, and fossil beds. On our drive yesterday, we came upon an intense wildfire that had jumped the highway before we got there. The winds were very strong all day. We could see the smoke from 50+ miles away. As we drove by it, a farmhouse caught...

Oct 8, 2011 - The Thousand Springs

Thurs Oct 6 Rain and 43 degrees. We headed down the road after a comfortable night at good old WalMart. We were only a short distance from Idaho and soon passed the “Welcome to” sign. In Meridian we stopped at the Camping World store to pick up an item. Lo and Behold – a Sierra Trading Post Factory Outlet store! Ginger said no, don’t stop, keep going. Now, you see, I have read one of (OK – part of it) those articles about how men and women think differently and when a man says no, he means no. And when a woman saws no it may mean, or could...

Jun 15, 2011 - Worthing Adventure 2011 Day Three

Day 3 Well, it’s almost noon and so far we’ve managed to …. leave Cody. Seriously, that’s it so far. Before we left though we had to repack everything and then stop by a Wal-mart for some more snacks and supplies. As we were heading out of town we stopped by the Buffalo Bill Reservoir. It was still a little low even though there is a lot of water coming out of the mountains right now. On our way into Yellowstone we also had to stop and take a picture at the U.S. Firefighters Memorial. You can understand and appreciate the role of the...

Sep 1, 2010 - Twin Falls

This morning, we drove to Twin Falls. We first went to a bridge at the north end of town that spans the Snake River Gorge. It is 476 ft above the river. It is a beautiful view. In our tour book is a brief reference to Shoshone Falls that tells that they are called the "Niagara of the West". It says that there is not much water during the summer because it is held in reservoirs for irrigation. After calling the Chamber of Commerce, we decided to go anyway since it is just a five mile drive. The falls were wonderful. They are wide but not too...
