The smoke was pretty heavy in Victor and the Tetons today, so we decided on a road trip and off we went. Headed north up the Teton Valley through Driggs Idaho towards Ashton, Idaho and West Yellowstone. It was smokey but we got to see the farmers harvesting the wheat and see the large potato farms. It was a beautiful drive up and down rolling hills. After a short visit to the "Mountain Man Rendezvous" we continued and came across what is known today as "Quake Lake". The 1959 Yellowstone earthquake also known as the Hebgen Lake earthquake was a powerful earthquake that occurred on August 17, 1959 at 11:37 pm (MST) in southwestern Montana. Aug 2, 2012 - Mesa Falls State Park

Today we took off to visit some Mesa falls. The scenic beauty of Mesa Falls has been enjoyed by travelers since the early 1900’s. Upper Mesa Falls is part of the Henrys Fork of the Snake River. It is approximately 114 feet high and 200 feet wide. The average volume of water flowing over the falls varies between 600 and 1,500 cubic feet per second. This equates to 387 million to 967 million gallons per day. Jul 20, 2010 - Ashton, Idaho - 333 miles

Beautiful ride today through rural Idaho. Lots of gorgeous vistas. We had lunch at the Pickle Place in Arco, Idaho. Tonight we are at bed and breakfast on an old farm. Beautiful land with wheat and alfalfa crops and two darling new foals. Tomorrow is Yellowstone National Park! Photos later - can't add them from this computer. I have no cell phone service here, but I do have Internet access on the B&B computer.

Jul 27, 2008 - Ashton, Idaho

This is our first visit to Idaho. We camped in Ashton, Idaho at an RV park. We left early in the morning and took a scenic loop tour of Targhee National Forest where we saw Mesa Upper and Lower Falls. From there we drove by The Sand Dunes of Idaho and Crater of the Moon National Monument before stopping for the night at a KOA in the Jerome/ Twin Falls area.

Wildlife sightings here during our stay in the Yellowstone NP, Grand Teton NP, Teton Valley, Harriman St Park (ID) & Caldera Crater are: one Bear (possibly grizzly), Bison/Buffalo, Elk, Moose, Pronghorns, "Pig Whistles" (prairie dogs?), Marmot, Trumpeter Swans, Sandhill Cranes, Canada Geese, Blue Birds, YellowHead Blackbird, Magpies, Ravens, lots of horses, cattle & many more species that are unidentified by name. Aug 20, 2007 - Riverside Campground, Ashton Idaho

Left COTM as another thunderstorm hit and we are on our way to "Riverside Campground" north of Ashton, Idaho. This is in the Targhee National Park and we have a beautiful site overlooking the Henry Fork of the Snake River. Mark stopped to get a one day fishing license so maybe we will have trout for dinner. They have to be 16" or longer to keep so, I'm not counting on it. Had rain on Sat but today it is sunny without a cloud in the sky. Speaking of skies, the stars were astounding last night.
