May 11, 2013 - American Falls
May 11 8:00 27858.1 Sunny, blue skies with whispy clouds, Eastern Oregon is dry, high desert. Our campground was nestled in trees with a backscape of snow covered mountains. Most of journey today will follow the Oregon Trail to American Falls, Idaho. Our journey is expected to take 6 hours. It will be 338 miles. It would have taken the early pioneers approximately 22 days to make the same trip. This area if Idaho is fairly flat and the going would not have been difficult except for the river crossings. Our first job is to fuel up, diesel...

Jul 25, 2012 - Massacre Rocks State Park, American Falls, ID
Massacre Rocks State Park is another park with Oregon Trail history behind its name. The name is a bit dramatic for the event occurring in August of 1862. Emigrant traffic on the Oregon Trail was well established by 1862 and the wagon trains traveling at that time were fairly small; they consisted of only 10-15 wagons per train and extra stock. Trains were generally only a few miles apart on the trail. On Aug. 9, 1862 4 trains were traveling in the area. The first two of the small trains were attacked by the Indians. In retaliations, men...

Jun 8, 2011 - Massacre Rocks - Idaho Falls and Potatos
So we have moved from the cold and wet of Eastern Idaho into the cold and wet of southern Idaho. Our stay will be at Massacre State Park. They have water and 50 amp electric but no sewer. But we are close to the parks showers. Our plan when leaving Island Park was to stop at a Walmart in Pocatello where I would go shopping and Cathe would unhook the car and go to a specified Walgreen's to pick up an RX for Trio. Well this Walmart was the smallest I have seen in quite some time. So we stopped in a Lowe's parking lot, unhooked the car and...

Sep 19, 2007 - Massacre State Rock, Idaho
We arrived at Massacre Rocks State park and there were only two other campers here. So we got to pick our camp site. We found one where the only thing we saw was the Snake River (no other campers). Looks a lot like Texas here, but much cooler. The hardest thing about this place is to keep Nico from climbing -- and falling -- off of the rocks. This place was named after an Indian Massacre of ten "white people." No one seems to know -- or care -- how many Indians were killed.

Aug 22, 2007 - Scofield State Park to Idaho
We left Scofield State Park Utah heading toward Salt Lake City, UT and then Idaho. We got gas in Helper, UT which is next to the town where the coal miners were lost, we think. We saw signs all over town - "Pray for our miners." This area of Utah appears to have many coal mines. We checked our mileage. So far we have driven 2173 miles. We stopped to take pictures of the Great Salt Lake in Willard, UT. Just over the Idaho line, after climbing for at least 1/2 hour to over 5,500 ft., Charlie re-named the RV. Instead of Sea Breeze - Remove...

Colter Bay to Massacre Rocks State Park, ID Enjoyed a scenic ride along the Snake River on our way to Massacre Rocks State Park in Idaho, that doesn't sound good. Our campsite for the night teeters on a cliff's edge overlooking the river. On arrival the temp in the RV was 100 degrees! The only thing to do was stay indoors in the air conditioning. We sat and watched pelicans trolling for fish below while enjoying the sight of cooling waters.
