Aug 13, 2020 - ROCK AND RELAX

We’ve had a bit of trouble with our Internet, so I have two “stops” worth of pictures and stories in this blog! Heber City, Utah is quickly becoming one of my favorite places. Heber City is northeast of Provo, Utah in the Wasatch Mountains. The town is surrounded by spectacular mountain peaks and beautiful, blue lakes. Mountain Valley RV Park (where we stayed) was a perfect 10. We reserved a week’s stay in the “Adult Only” section - which had its own pool, hot tub, grassy dog park and gym. We spent the week catching up on chores, RV...

Sep 20, 2013 - City of Rocks

Just the name City of Rocks was enough to get me interested in seeing what it was all about. I am a lover of rocks and Lee has a hard time keeping me from taking rocks home from everywhere we go. Of course, he has an easier time now because we don’t have a rock garden to put them in. Our daughter, Danica, would have this to say about this place: “Rocks, Rocks and more Rocks!” However, today we learned that GPS units are not to be trusted blindly. Lee got instructions how to get from our campground to the City of Rocks National Reserve near...

Sep 7, 2010 - Among the Rocks

We are still in southern Idaho and we have just visited two off-the-beaten path places. The first place was Craters of the Moon National Monument. As a base for exploring the park, we stayed at an RV Park in the small town of Arco. This campground also provided free breakfast (pancakes and eggs) to RVers each morning. Art enjoyed his days off from making breakfast. Can you tell who gets up first? After driving 18 miles to the monument and seeing nothing but sagebrush and occasional farmland and cattle ranches, the park’s dark black lava...

May 20, 2010 - Bigggg Rocks

From Village of Trees RV Park, in Declo, Idaho, in the south central part of the state sandwiched between I-84 & the Snake River, east of Twin Falls. WEATHER REPORT, at 9:40 PM, 49 degrees, clear; during the past 24 hours, temps of 46/64, .25 inch of rain, breezy winds, some sunshine. We’ve learned since we have been here that rocks are a major draw in this area….rocks, as in Castle Rocks State Park, rocks as in City of Rocks National Reserve, rocks as in those things that rock-climbers use as their props for their personal playtime. They...

We're Wingin' It

Sep 24, 2007 - City of Rocks National Reserve

We had a fantastic night although it is cool, sure do like our catalytic propane heater-it warms it up nice in here. Of course we have trouble getting close to it as both dogs think it is there for them to lay in front of. Had a beautiful sunset which Dave got some neat pictures of and of our site, and again this morning it was so pretty. First stop was back at the Visitors' center where we watched a short movie about this area. The City of Rocks was named by the early settlers traveling on the California trail who came upon the unique...

Jun 29, 2007 - City of Rocks National Reserve, Idaho

We drove north into Idaho. On the way we stoped at Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument. It is on the Snake River. There is a huge fossil bed there containing the bones of the Hagerman Horse. It is a native horse that looked like a Zebra. While at the Visitors Center at the fossil beds we talked with the ranger and got information about anther historical site, called . This is a site where Japanees were interned during WW2. We decided it was not worth the trip as there was nothing remaning to see. Instead we went to City of Rocks National...
