Today we explored the eastern part of the island. After a trip to WalMart for supplies, first on the list was Wailua Falls. Unfortunately this site denied my photo (it was l=too large), but they were beautiful. Next we saw Opaeka'a Falls and sweeping views of the Wailua River. Feeling adventurous, we drove to the end of the road, then off road for some 4WD action. The goal was a trail to an unnamed falls and swimming area. Oct 12, 2006 - fly to Kauai

The flight from Oahu to Kauai took 25 minutes. We landed and walked to the baggage carousel and our bags were already there. All flights should be like this! It's a shock to the system to have left the buzzing very urban Honolulu and ended up in the very rural and quiet Kauai - sort of like leaving Chicago for southern Illinois. There are only 65,00 people on the entire island and there is only one main road that almost makes a complete circle around it.
