Mar 7, 2010 - Despite the weather, we saw the north shore

Thanks to our friends the roosters we were up by 7:30 and on the road by 9am. Despite crappy rainy weather we headed up north. We starting at Ke'e Beach at the very end of the road then planned to work backwards. There was nowhere to park at the beach--people everywhere (dang tourists) so we did a brief look around then started slowly working our way back. We really wanted some beach time so we found Tunnels Beach known for excellent snorkeling, and as soon as we set up camp it started raining- but we stuck it out! So I read a book and Dan...

Apr 6, 2008 - North Shore of Kauai

We decided to spend our first full day on Kauai exploring the beaches on the north shore. We stopped at the Foodland grocery store (like our Publix) to pick up sandwiches for lunch and drove west to the end of the road to Ha'ena State Park. There are too many cars for the narrow roads, and way too many people. The beach at the end of the road, Ke'e Beach, was as crowed as Jones Beach. The highlight of the day was visiting the Kilauea Lighthouse and Wildlife Preserve. The preserve is home to a wide variety of sea birds, and offers amazing views. The lighthouse, which is no longer used, is located on the northern most point...

Nov 21, 2005 - Prime Real Estate

I grew up in Hawaii, so I'm accustomed to seeing upscale resorts. And I now live in California, so I'm surrounded by suburbs. But I am seeing a blend of the two—suburbia for folks with money—smack in the middle of Kaua'i's North Shore. Princeville is a planned community that emerged after the luxury Princeville Resort was built in 1985. The "main street" is a wide thoroughfare, flanked by the renowned Princeville golf courses. It is impossible to get lost because huge signs appear before cross streets, indicating the condominiums on that...
