Jan 20, 2013 - Kauai and Maui - 2013

This winter we decided to go to Kauai and then to Maui. We stayed at the Westin Princeville on Kauai and rented a condo on Maui in Wailea. Both have been super. We took a helicopter ride on Kauai to get the lay of the land. The lady who herded us onto the 'copter looked so much like our friend Patty it was eery. We both went "Whoaaaa" Then Cheryl tried her hand at horseback riding for the first time. We managed to find one of Kauai's perfectly rainy days. Cheryl is now an accomplished equestrian in her own mind. She didn't fall...

Mar 1, 2011 - Maui - Day 22 & 23 - Fun Sun and Turtles

Day 22 (Feb 28) Woke up to a very chilly morning at 5:30am. Travel up to the mountain summit to see the sunrise at 6:40am. Packed with excited tourists, it was hard to get a good vantage point to take photos so we climbed up a dark rocky trail to a peak where we had the best views and seats (rocks) on the mountain. The wind was intense but we brought our sleeping bags up with us and wrapped them around our bodies to keep us toasty warm. There were tourists that did not come prepared for the cold and you could tell their lips were turning...

Feb 27, 2011 - Maui - Day 20 & 21 - Greeted by whales

After the last entry, we headed out to the Maui NW coast. Just 10 minutes into our trip, we began to see whales breaching out of the water from the highway we were driving on. We quickly found a spot to stop at and admire this natural beauty. While there, we met a local teenager that was climbing down the steep cliff we were parked on, to sit below on the rocks and fish. He was very energetic and enthusiastic and was quite happy to converse with us. He caught his first fish at this very spot and has since been coming back to the same spot...

Feb 10, 2009 - First day in Kehei & Makena!

Today it was hot and sunny. We started off with a snack at the Kihei cafe. Had Kona coffee and yogurt with raisins on a papaya. MMMM Good! Then we took a walk along Charles Young beach, cam 1,2 and 3 beaches. Great sand beaches and lots of people surfing and swimming. Rox had to get out of the sun so we had a marg and snack at Moose McGullycuddy's pub. Then we picked up some goods at the health food store. Picked up our car from the Maui Vista and headed up to Makena beach. One of the largest beaches on Maui. The surf breaks hard here but...

Rox & Brad In Maui!

May 28, 2008 - La Perouse Bay First Time around:)

On Wednesday, we were a little tired from our long, but AMAZING day on Lana'i. We decided to check out La Perouse Bay, located south of the town of Wailea, in Makena. It was named after Captain La Perouse in 1786 when he mapped the southern cape of Maui. The island in the distance is Kaho'olawe, which is not accessable. The Bay lies directly south of the Ahihi-Kinau National Area Reserve, home to numerous endemic fish, marine mammals, green sea turtles and coastal plants. We walked along an unknown number of miles of roadside that ran along...
